The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and Meta have inked a multiyear agreement for Meta to become the organization’s “Official Fan Technology Partner.” This might lead to even more seamless integration of the mixed martial arts competitions between Quest and the company’s other platforms.

According to the UFC, it will use Meta’s “leading technologies,” which include Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Threads, Meta AI, Meta Glasses, and Meta Quest, to provide previously unheard-of interaction with hundreds of millions of UFC fans worldwide.

Meta will also be the UFC’s “Official AI Glasses Partner,” according to the UFC, and the two will “cooperate to creatively use their groundbreaking AI glasses in compelling ways at UFC events.”

According to UFC President and CEO Dana White, “Mark and his team at Meta are going to do things that will blow away UFC fans.” Over the years, I’ve had many fantastic partners that have helped us expand our sport. “Meta has the brightest minds in technology, and they will revolutionize fan interaction.” With Meta, we have already begun working on certain innovations related to a new fighter ranks system, which I will shortly reveal. For lovers of this sport, the coming years will be a complete game-changer.

Given that Mark Zuckerberg, the founder and CEO of Meta, has developed a strong interest in Jiu Jitsu over the years and has participated in several Jiu Jitsu tournaments, the matchup makes a lot of sense.

“I’m excited to work with the UFC to give fans new experiences because I love this sport,” Zuckerberg added.

Along with tech investor Charlie Songhurst and John Elkann, CEO of investment firm Exor, White also joined Meta’s board of directors in January.

The specifics of what it adds to Quest are still lacking. Meta states that it will incorporate UFC assets “with extensive activations in all Pay-Per-Views and Fight Nights, including brand placement in the world-famous Octagon, numerous broadcast features, and creative in-arena fan experiences,” albeit this is not specifically related to XR.

Meta’s social media platform Threads, which offers unique original UFC content, is also expected to be included in the agreement.

The UFC and Meta initially collaborated in 2022 to offer 180-degree Fight Pass livestreams on the Xtadium app and Quest’s social VR platform, Horizon Worlds. It’s probable that the two are aiming to develop and broaden licensing throughout Quest with the new collaboration, which would increase the visibility of UFC matches on the website even more.

According to the companies, additional information regarding the partnership will be released shortly.
