Samsung Galaxy Tab S9: Everything you need to know

Even though the Samsung Galaxy Tab S line of tablets isn’t quite as popular as its Galaxy S smartphone stablemate, it’s still a great choice if you’re looking for a high-end Android tablet that isn’t an iPad. According to recent rumors, you might want to wait to purchase the current edition because an updated one might be released shortly. Here is everything we currently know about the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9.

When will the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 be released?

As of this writing, there has been no formal announcement from Samsung, so we’ll need to look at previous releases as well as circulating rumors to determine when we might see the new hardware appear.

The prior Galaxy Tab versions went on sale at the following dates:

  • Samsung Galaxy S8 – Feb 2022
  • Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus – Feb 2022
  • Samsung Galaxy S8 Ultra – Feb 2022
  • Samsung Galaxy S7 FE – May 2021
  • Samsung Galaxy S7 – Aug 2020
  • Samsung Galaxy S7 Plus – Aug 2020
  • Samsung Galaxy S6 – Aug 2019

With the introduction of the S8 series, the customary summer release date was pushed back to February. There won’t be a repetition of that month in 2023 because it has already passed.

We’ve already heard rumors about some of the Tab S9’s technical specifications, so it still appears that Samsung plans to release the new model shortly. As a result, we anticipate that the July/August 2023 release timeframe will once again apply.

The Galaxy Tab S9, S9 Plus, and S9 Ultra, each available in Wi-Fi-only or 5G versions, are expected to make a comeback in 2023, according to GalaxyClub in the Netherlands, which covers Samsung products.

How much will the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 cost?

Again, Samsung hasn’t officially announced the new tablet’s price, so looking back should provide some hints.

The introduction costs for the most recent Samsung tablets are listed below:

  • Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 – $699/£649
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Plus – $899/£849
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra – $1,099/£999
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 – $649/£619
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Plus – $849/£799
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE – $529/£449

We believe it is fair to anticipate that the Galaxy Tab S9 range will cost about the same as the S8 versions, though there is a chance that price may go up slightly given how difficult the global economy continues to be for both makers and consumers.

What new features will there be in the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9?

The addition of an IP67 waterproof classification is one feature that has been widely reported, though we’re still not entirely sure what improvements may be included with the release of the Tab S9. Even the iPad Pros lack this level of water and dust protection, so this would be a major upgrade. With an IP classification of 67, the Galaxy Tab S9 would be protected from dust and able to withstand submerging for 30 minutes up to a maximum depth of 1 meter. Even though we wouldn’t recommend attempting it, at least the tablet shouldn’t be severely damaged if it were to accidentally fall into the kitchen or bathroom basin.

The newest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipsets, which many people anticipated to be included in the Tab S9 line, won’t be, according to tech leaker Digital Chat Station. The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 appears to be the preferred engine for the new tablets, but that is not to say that they won’t be updated. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 was built with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, and while the Plus model does provide some respectable speed enhancements, it is not the cutting edge that Samsung supporters have frequently praised.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 platform is too costly, while the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is “enough for Android tablet productivity,” according to Digital Chat Station, which is one of the reasons for this decision. This is accurate, as the Plus processor is capable of handling most of the activity required when using the tablet in a laptop-like manner. However, we still believe that the Galaxy Tab S9 could ship with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Only time will tell.
