Apple will announce the details on Monday, but the new operating system will not be available to the general public until September. Developer betas will begin on Monday, with public betas following in July.

When Apple made the similar declaration last June, it turned out that any iPhone that was compatible with the 2023 iOS 17 release could also run iOS 18.

However, it is unusual for that situation to persist for more than two years in a succession.

According to the latest speculations, there will be three iPhones that will fall short, and these are the three oldest models that can run iOS 18, all of which were released in 2018.

The iPhone XS, the larger iPhone XS Max, and the more cheap iPhone XR are all powered by Apple’s A12 Bionic technology.

That means that all iPhones from the iPhone 11 onwards will be compatible with iOS 26 – so if you have an iPhone 11 or later, you can relax.

It’s crucial to note that if you own one of these iPhones, it will continue to work in the fall. Nothing will change, save that iOS 26 updates will not work on them.

However, iOS 18 upgrades will continue to be released, primarily for security purposes. However, it is unlikely that new functionality would be introduced to the phones beyond what they now do.
