Google has announced the release of a software update for all Pixel Watch “Wear OS 5.1” smartphone users, which promises to address a variety of concerns.
The March Pixel Drop promised great things for Pixel Watch owners, but it ended up being a fiasco, at least for some of them.
Certain Pixel Watch users were unable to update, leaving them locked on Google’s wearable OS’s November 2024 release. Others who did manage to update discovered that step tracking had become quite unreliable in certain instances.
Wear OS 5.1 is now available to all Pixel Watch users throughout the world, and it should resolve any remaining issues.
What’s in the April Pixel Watch update?
According to a new Google post, the upcoming April 2025 Pixel Watch update (version BP1A.250305.019.W8) will address both of these concerns.
It is being rolled out to all Pixel Watch 1, Pixel Watch 2, and Pixel Watch 3 wearables, which is a start.
Google also claims that the skewed step count issue has been resolved – kind of. The business is reverting the previously announced step algorithm improvements to the prior stable version, so it’s back to the drawing board on that one.
As we noted last month, the new Pixel Watch update was expected to improve step tracking accuracy and detect deviations from the usual.

If you missed the March update for your Pixel Watch, this April revision includes some more features.
Pixel Watch 2 owners now get access to the Pixel Watch 3’s Auto-bedtime Mode, which detects when you fall asleep and turns off your watch face and notifications.
Meanwhile, Pixel Watch 3 owners can now track their menstrual health in the Fitbit app, logging periods, viewing cycle status, and predicting their next period.
