The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip series has been something of a trailblazer in the foldable phone market. So, it’s no wonder that each succeeding edition of this phone has landed on our list of the greatest flip phones.
With each release, including the latest Galaxy Z Flip 6 – Samsung continues to innovate across design, performance, and features.
As excitement grows for the Galaxy Z Flip 7, here’s everything we know so far about its possible release date, pricing, and specifications.
When will the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 be released?
Following Samsung’s regular release pattern, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 is projected to be released in mid-2025, most likely in July or August, similar to past Galaxy Z Flip announcements.
According to SamMobile, Samsung has already registered trademarks for the Z Flip 7, indicating that the phone is on its way.
This release is anticipated to coincide with Samsung’s huge annual Summer (in the northern hemisphere) Unpacked event, during which the company normally unveils the latest models in its flagship lines, including the Z Flip and Z Fold series.
How much will the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 cost?
According to Android Headlines, the Z Flip 7 price will “remain the same” as the Z Flip 6, at least in the United States.
That means a starting price of $1,099, though it is unclear whether the £1,049 UK pricing will change.
As usual, expect multiple more expensive configurations.
There are also reports of a more cheap model, the Galaxy Z Flip FE (Fan Edition), which may have somewhat lower performance in order to achieve a lower price point.
What specs and features will the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 have?
Design
According to KED Global (The Korea Economic Daily Global Edition), the director of Samsung’s mobile division has entrusted engineers with developing a foldable phone as thin as the Galaxy S series, with a thickness of around 8.4mm when folded.
However, it does not appear that device will be the Galaxy Z Flip 7. According to Android Headlines, the phone will be 6.9mm thick when open (excluding the camera hump), which is the same as the Z Flip 6.
CAD images provided to the site’s YouTube channel show what appears to be a very recognizable item.
The Galaxy Z Flip series’ folding clamshell design is likely to continue, although rumors suggest that the hinge mechanism could be improved for more longevity, making the phone more robust.
Display
According to SamMobile, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 could include PHOLED (Phosphorescent OLED) technology for lower power consumption and higher luminous efficiency than existing AMOLED screens.
However, challenges in developing blue PHOLED materials may delay their full integration into Samsung’s foldable lineup as early as next year.
According to Android Headlines, the cover and inner displays will be slightly larger, measuring 3.6 and 6.7 inches, respectively. However, that cover screen would still be smaller than the 4-inch version on the Razr 50 Ultra.
That may not remain the case for long. According to reputable leaker Max Jambor on X, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 will include a full-screen cover display, potentially expanding its size from 3.4 to 4 inches. While the phone’s overall size and orientation remain identical, this would signify Samsung’s transition to a more immersive outside screen, as seen on foldables from Motorola, Xiaomi, Honor, and Infinix.
In an X post, leaker PandaFlash also claims the Z Flip 7’s crease will be “a bit less noticeable” than the Z Fold 7, though it’s unclear how this will differ from the Z Flip 6.
Performance
The Galaxy Z Flip 7 may be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, which provides quicker speed, improved AI capabilities, and higher battery efficiency than the 8 Gen 3 seen in the Flip 6.
However, according to industry source Jukanlosreve and Korean news outlet The Elec, the phone will use the unannounced Exynos 2500 processor. This rumour is supported by statements from a “high-ranking Samsung Electronics official.”
The Exynos 2500, which is based on Samsung’s second-generation SF3 3nm technology, is rumored to include a 10-core CPU with configurations including a 3.3 GHz prime core, two 2.75 GHz high-performance cores, five 2.36 GHz cores, and two 1.8 GHz efficiency cores. The chipset is also expected to include an Xclipse 950 GPU built on AMD’s RDNA architecture.
The Exynos 2500 is expected to go into mass production in early 2025, which corresponds to Samsung’s reported target of 229.4 million smartphones that year. Among these, the speculated Galaxy Z Flip 7 is expected to sell 900,000 copies.
This decision, if accurate, appears to be consistent with speculations that the Galaxy S25 series will use the Snapdragon 8 Elite, implying that Samsung may save its top-tier Exynos processor for foldable smartphones.
The Galaxy Z Flip 7 will most likely include 12GB of RAM and 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of storage, depending on the chipset used.
Cameras
One of the most fascinating rumours about the Galaxy Z Flip 7 is the addition of a third rear camera, maybe with a telephoto lens (via SamMobile and GalaxyClub).
This would be a huge upgrade, considering the Z Flip series has previously only had wide and ultrawide cameras on the back. However, Android Headlines just states that the 50Mp main and 12Mp ultrawide would be back, with no mention of a telephoto.
A telephoto lens would provide higher-fidelity zoom without sacrificing image clarity, appealing to those seeking professional-level portrait and zoom capabilities.
The primary camera has already been upgraded from a 12Mp to a 50Mp sensor with the release of the Z Flip 6, boosting overall image quality and low-light performance. As a result, we predict only gradual progress on that front.
Battery & Charging
Samsung’s foldable phones have gradually improved in terms of battery capacity, and the Galaxy Z Flip 7 will most likely contain the same 4000mAh battery as the Z Flip 6, along with 25W fast charging.
However, recent certification listings obtained by MyFixGuide from China’s 3C agency reveal that the Z Flip 7 (model SM-F7660) supports 9V/2.77A charging, which corresponds to the same 25W charging speed as its predecessor. The phone will apparently ship without a charger but will still work with Samsung’s outdated EP-TA800 adapter, which was first released with the Galaxy S10.
What is changing, however, is the battery capacity: the Z Flip 7 is expected to receive a modest bump to 4,174mAh, split across two cells – up from 4,000mAh on the Z Flip 6. That still falls short of the 4,500mAh threshold that Samsung appears to require before enabling faster 45W charging, as seen on other devices like the Galaxy A36.
With the potential integration of that aforementioned PHOLED technology, overall power consumption could decrease, allowing the battery to last longer on a single charge, despite the phone’s compact form factor.
Samsung remains cautious in adopting Silicon-Carbon battery tech, which could allow for larger capacities without increasing the physical size of the phone.
Software
According to an exclusive source from SamMobile, the Z Flip 7 will most likely run Android 16 with Samsung’s One UI 8 (which is expected to be released considerably sooner than One UI 7).
According to leaked information, One UI 8 will be a significant upgrade above prior versions. Expect a revised user interface with new icons, animations, and greater multitasking features, specifically for foldable devices.
