Pixel Fold: This is what first folding smartphone should be

The Pixel Fold, Google’s first folding smartphone, is anticipated to be released in the spring of 2023, according to leaker Jon Prosser.

While we may have anticipated for Google’s first folding smartphone, the Pixel Fold – or Pixel Notepad – to be announced alongside the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro at the beginning of October, there is no summer. In fact, the firm has been satisfied to unveil its two high-end smartphones with the release of its first connected watch, the Pixel Watch.

This, however, does not imply that Google has abandoned its folding smartphone project, which has been in the works for some years. In a video released on Monday, YouTuber Jon Prosser of the Front Page Tech channel stated that he acquired numerous details regarding the Google Pixel Fold from “extremely trustworthy” well-informed sources. Jon Prosser has received multiple photographs from various sources and claims to have digitally replicated the graphics in order to best safeguard those who entrusted him with this information.

Among the images supplied by Front Page Tech is a smartphone in a book-style folding configuration with a vertical fold. The smartphone appears to be a conventional Pixel smartphone on the front, with a screen filling the whole area of the front save for a punch in the upper center for the alleged 9.5 megapixel selfie camera. A horizontal bar with three cameras is visible on the rear. A placement that is very similar to the Google Pixel 7 Pro. However, unlike the existing Pixel smartphones, the Pixel Fold’s bar does not appear to stretch all the way to the back corners. We can also see what appears to be a loudspeaker grille under the light.

According to Jon Prosser, the Pixel Fold will be made of metal and glass and will be available in two colors: black and white. The huge screen would have quite substantial bezels at the top and bottom. Above all, unlike Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 4, which has a concealed camera beneath the display, the selfie camera would be positioned at the top right of the screen, in the border, when the smartphone is open. The side standby button would function as a fingerprint reader.

According to Front Page Tech, the Google Pixel Fold will be unveiled in May, alongside the Pixel Tablet, which was initially spotted in October. Google might possibly formally unveil their folding smartphone during the Google I/O conference, which is generally held around this time of year. The YouTube channel reports that it has learnt that the price currently proposed by Google is 1799 dollars, or 1740 euros. As a result, we should expect a price including VAT of roughly 2000 euros. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 was released this summer at a price of 1799 euros.

Remember that, while Jon Prosser’s leaks aren’t usually accurate, he was the first to reveal the earliest 3D drawings of the Pixel Watch, more than a year before Google confirmed it. The American leaker also acquires typically trustworthy information about Google goods, such as the Pixel 6, which was also introduced far before the Mountain View firm’s formalization.
