The M5 MacBook Pro has just been revealed, and like the previous generations, it’s more of an internal performance bump than a significant upgrade to one of the greatest MacBooks available.
Keep in mind that we are just seeing the basic M5 chip. We’ll have to wait for the M5 Pro and M5 Max, which will arrive later on.
The laptop’s specifications are similar to those of the M4 MacBook Pro, including the same webcam, superb (but optional) nano-texture glass for decreasing reflectivity, and port array packed into the same utilitarian design.
However, M5 provides the most significant rise. And you’ll get these iterative improvements for the same starting price of $1,599. Pre-orders begin today (October 15th), with the official launch date slated for October 22nd.
M5 MacBook Pro specs
The M5 MacBook Pro has received a spec upgrade in a few crucial areas. This is how it compares to the M4 MacBook Pro.
MacBook Pro M5: What’s new?

The two major updates here are basic. Apple’s M5 CPU is created utilizing a sophisticated 3nm technology for quicker speeds and more endurance, as well as a significant increase in graphics and faster SSD read/write rates.
This is guaranteed to help speed up demanding 4K rendering work and AAA gaming, especially with an estimated 20% increase in multithreaded performance over the M4’s CPU, 1.6x faster GPU, and 3.5x quicker AI. Topping it all off, the battery lasts a staggering 24 hours!
Aside from these, you still get the same great Liquid Retina XDR display, tactile keyboard, and massive haptic trackpad, a 12MP Center Stage camera for impressive webcam clarity, Thunderbolt, SD card reader, and HDMI, and the same flat design that is still a stunner (even if it is getting a little old).
For those who have been waiting for the M5 Pro and M5 Max, it appears that the MacBook Pro introduction will take place in stages. However, as I discovered while driving the standard MacBook Pro on a daily basis, this is more than adequate performance for the majority of users.
