Motorola Edge 50 Neo leaks ahead of expected launch soon

First, the Edge 50 Fusion, Edge 50 Pro, and Edge 50 Ultra hit the market, followed by the Razr 50 and Razr 50 Ultra foldables. All of these gadgets are now available across Europe, including the United Kingdom. According to the latest rumors, the Edge line will shortly be expanded with new models. Here’s all you need to know about the Edge 50 lineup, which includes the upcoming normal Edge 50 and Motorola Edge 50 Neo.

When will the Motorola Edge 50 series be released?

The Edge 50 series was initially unveiled in India on April 3, 2024, with a release date of April 9, 2024. The global launch did not take long, taking place on April 16, 2024.

As of July 12, 2024, the entire series, including the Edge 50 Fusion, Edge 50 Pro, and Edge 50 Ultra, is now available in the United Kingdom. However, there is no indication of a possible US release.

As expected, they arrived at the same time as last year’s models. For comparison, here’s when recent models debuted in Europe:

Furthermore, MySmartPrice indicates that Motorola is expanding its Edge 50 family by introducing a new ‘vanilla’ Edge 50 variant.

According to the article, numerous global authorities, including the TDRA, FCC, EEC, UAE’s TDRA, and, most recently, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), have authorized the new model, implying that it would be launched in India and around the world. While the BIS certification does not reveal detailed information about the device’s specifications, it does indicate that the introduction is soon.

It could be joined by the Edge 50 Neo, according to leaker Evan Blass, who posted official-looking renders and GSMArena, which says it’s “expected to launch soon”.

How much does the Motorola Edge 50 series cost?

Here’s the starting prices for the phones currently available in Europe, including the UK:

  • Edge 50 Fusion – £349/€349
  • Edge 50 Pro – £599/€699
  • Edge 50 Ultra – £849/€999

The Edge 50 Fusion is reasonably priced, costing less than its predecessor, the Edge 30 Fusion, and the worst of the previous generation, the Edge 40.

The reintroduction of the Ultra model has also raised maximum costs slightly. The Edge 50 Pro is no longer the most powerful in the series, and its price has been dropped in comparison to the Edge 40 Pro.

Motorola Edge 50 Neo

The Edge 50 Ultra will cost you £150 more than the Pro model from last year. However, its price is still lower than the £999 Pixel 8 Pro and £1,249 Galaxy S24 Ultra, which will be the Edge 50 Ultra’s major competitors in terms of AI features.

The estimated Edge 50 price should be between £349/€349 and £599/€699. And the Edge 50 Neo should cost less than any of them.

For reference, here’s how much the prior models cost at their first launch:

  • Motorola Edge 30 Neo – £349/€399 (approx. $415)
  • Motorola Edge 30 – $399/£379/€499
  • Motorola Edge 30 Fusion – £499/€699 (approx. $615)
  • Motorola Edge 30 Pro – $699/€799 (approx. £589)
  • Motorola Edge 30 Ultra – £749/€899 (approx. $889)
  • Motorola Edge 40 Neo – £299.99
  • Motorola Edge 40 – £529.99/€599.99
  • Motorola Edge 40 Pro – £799/€899

What specs and features does the Motorola Edge 50 series have?

We have validated the specifications for all three Edge 50 phones now that they have been formally unveiled in Europe. Here’s what to expect from them.

Motorola Edge 50 Pro

The Edge 50 Pro sports a streamlined design with curved edges, an aluminum frame, and vegan leather or pearl finishes. It also has an IP68 designation for dust and water protection.

On the front, it has a near-borderless 6.7-inch 144Hz pOLED display with Full HD+ resolution and HDR10. It also has a peak brightness of 2000 nits and Pantone-validated colors for better accuracy. Notably, it features a 50MP front-facing camera with autofocus and an in-display fingerprint scanner.

On the back, there’s a 50MP main camera with OIS, a 10MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, and a 13MP ultrawide lens that also serves as a macro camera for close-up images.

It can capture videos at a maximum resolution of 4K UHD in 30fps or FHD in 60 or 30fps.

The device is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 processor, which is paired with 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 512GB of UFS 2.2 internal storage. It also includes a 4500mAh battery and supports rapid charging at 125W wired and 50W wireless.

The Edge 50 Pro weighs 174.9 grams and measures 161.9 x 73.1 x 7.9 mm. It comes in Black Beauty and Luxe Lavender as standard, but there’s also a limited edition Moonlight Pearl variety made by Mazzucchelli 1849.

Motorola Edge 50 Fusion

The Edge 50 Fusion is a more affordable choice that nonetheless provides a premium design with its curved 6.7-inch Full HD+ pOLED display and 144Hz refresh rate. It is also tough, thanks to the IP68 grade for water and dust resistance and Gorilla Glass 5 on the front.

However, it is limited to the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 processor with either 8GB or 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB of UFS 2.2 internal storage.

It also has a significantly simplified camera arrangement on the back, consisting of a 50Mp main camera with OIS and a 13Mp ultrawide lens, as well as a 32Mp selfie camera.

The phone can capture video at UHD 30fps or FHD 30 and 60fps.

The Edge 50 Fusion features a 5000mAh battery. Motorola claims it has a battery life of more than 30 hours, but does not provide charging speeds.

The phone weighs 174.9g and measures 161.9 x 73.1 x 7.9mm. It comes in Forest Blue, Hot Pink, and Marshmallow Blue, all with a textured back. The latter has a vegan leather finish.

Motorola Edge 50 Ultra

The most feature-rich of the three, the Edge 50 Ultra has an IP68 rating for enhanced protection, a thin sandblasted aluminum frame, and Gorilla Glass Victus.

It has a 6.67-inch Super HD pOLED display on the front that has a refresh rate of 144 Hz and a maximum brightness of 2500 nits. A 50 megapixel autofocus selfie camera is also included.

The Ultra model’s rear contains a triple-LED flash in addition to a 50 megapixel primary camera, 50 megapixel ultrawide lens, and 64 megapixel telephoto lens with OIS and focusing capabilities.

The Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 processor powers the phone, together with 512GB or 1TB of UFS 4.0 internal storage and 12 or 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM. The Edge 50 Ultra boasts a 4500mAh battery that can support both up to 50W of wireless charging and 125W of wired charging. Furthermore, it has a 10W wireless power sharing feature.

The gadget will come in three colors: Nordic Wood, Peach Fuzz, and Forest Grey (which are all vegan leather). Despite having a slightly smaller screen and battery, it is the heaviest of the three at 197g and 161.09x 72.38 x 8.59mm in size.

Motorola Edge 50 Neo

Four color options for Motorola’s Edge 50 Neo are revealed in detailed renders that were posted by Evan Blass (via GSMArena). The colors are Grisaille (black), Nautical Blue, Poinciana (red), and Latte (beige). The Edge 50 Neo is anticipated to be released shortly.

It appears that the smartphone has three back cameras. A 50 megapixel primary camera, a 10 megapixel telephoto lens with a 3x optical zoom, and a 13 megapixel ultrawide camera are suggested by the camera specs.

The Edge 50 Neo is supposed to be available in 8GB/256GB and 12GB/512GB variants, but that’s all we know right now.

Motorola Edge 50

Currently, there is little information available on the Edge 50.

Previously, an FCC certification (via GSMArena) showed that the Edge 50 would include a 5,000 mAh battery with 68W rapid wired charging, NFC, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi 6, GPS, and 5G capabilities.

Further information is likely to be revealed shortly.

Software and Moto AI

All phones in the series come preloaded with Android 14 and the newly revamped Hello UX, Motorola’s Android overlay. However, its most significant addition is Moto AI, which offers artificial intelligence to compete with the likes of Samsung and Google.

It has additional customisation, intuitive gestures, Family Space for children, and Moto Secure for extensive security options. It also introduces Smart Connect, which allows for seamless integration across Lenovo and Motorola devices, providing a real multi-device experience. This provides support for external screens and simple data synchronization.

It also introduces the AI-powered Photo Enhancement Engine to the Edge 50 Ultra, which aids in the capture of ideal photos by merging settings from several shooting modes.

It optimizes photographs for detail, clarity, highlights, shadows, color, and bokeh. New features like Adaptive Stabilisation allow you to dynamically modify stabilisation levels, while Auto Focus Tracking keeps things in focus. Action Shot improves low-light photographs, and Long Exposure allows for creative motion recording without the use of dedicated camera equipment.

Adaptive Stabilisation Dynamically modify stabilization levels, Auto Focus Tracking keeps subjects sharp, Action Shot enhances details in tough lighting, and Long Exposure allows for creative motion capture with a single tap, all without the need for expert equipment.

In terms of updates, Motorola guarantees three years of Android version upgrades and four years of security updates for the Edge 50 series. That’s acceptable for the Fusion, but little disappointing for the Pro and Ultra variants.
