Samsung, the South Korean electronics giant, has developed a new wireless charging chip that will enable more faster wireless charging.
Qi2 will be available on phones in 2025, along with support for the new Qi2.2 wireless standard, which will be released later this year.
The new chip, S2MIW06, is believed to be capable of wireless charging up to 50 watts. This is a significant improvement over last year’s flagship Samsung phone, the Galaxy S24 Ultra, which only enabled 15W wireless charging.
However, it is unknown whether the new technology will be included in Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S25 phones, which will be introduced next week.
According to previous reports, the phones would not have built-in support for Qi2 charging, but hopefully things have changed since then, and it will help Samsung stand out from competitors such as Apple and Google.
The technology may also find its way into other Samsung smartphones.
