The Best Phone Chargers: Best wall & desktop USB chargers

Phones are getting faster at charging, but it’s uncommon to find a charger that can handle these top speeds in the package with the phone. That’s if a charger is provided at all, and many of us are still using excruciatingly sluggish 5W chargers.

This does not have to be the case. The probability is that your phone can be charged much quicker than you realize, and all you need is a good charger. We’ve compiled a list of single- and multi-port USB adapters that provide up to 45W of rapid charging for your phone (or tablet or compact laptop).

Electrical adapters connect to a power outlet. If they have multiple outlets, they are extremely useful if you need to charge more than one device at the same time, freeing up power sockets in your house and eliminating the need to bring multiple adaptors. (And if you know someone who doesn’t have one of these, it would make an excellent present.)

However, the majority of the USB adaptors evaluated here are not powerful enough to charge a laptop or some game systems. You’ll need a Quick Charge 4/4+ or Power Delivery adapter that can deliver up to 240W via USB-C. In a different piece, we’ve compiled a list of the best laptop chargers. A suitable 45W phone adapter, on the other hand, is sufficient for a compact laptop such as a MacBook Air or other 13-inch notebook.

You don’t need to be concerned about how much electricity your phone or tablet can take because it will only pull what it needs. Purchasing a fast charger now will provide some degree of security in the event that you later upgrade to a new model that allows faster charging. As a result, we recommend at least a 30W phone adapter, as the newest phones can consume far more power than 20W.

While iPhones are formally limited to 20 watts of charging power, studies show that the iPhone 13 and 14 Pro Max models can charge at up to 29W, and the iPhone 14 at up to 25W—so a power source with at least 30W could give more than Apple’s official 20W charger. The Samsung S23 Extreme can take advantage of 45W Super Rapid Charging 2.0.

Fast charging a phone

Any charger that accepts the BC 1.2 charging standard can juice a device at 7.5W, but based on the make and type of your phone, there are much faster charging standards.

The USB-PD specification is used by Apple and Google phones for rapid charging starting at 18W. When the battery capacity is between 0% and 79%, USB-PD comes in but ends when it hits 80%. This is done to protect the battery’s health—generally, you should maintain a phone’s battery charged between 30% and 80%.

Using USB-PD, Apple’s Quick Charge can charge a device from 0% to 50% in about 30 minutes.

Qualcomm’s Fast Charge is one of the most commonly used charging protocols. Opt for Quick Charge 3.0 or higher, which can deliver up to 18W of juice. Fast Charge 4.0 has a 27W output and enables USB-PD.

For Samsung Galaxy phones, Adaptive Fast Charging can deliver up to 18W of electricity, Super Fast Charging can deliver up to 25W, and Super Fast Charging 2.0 can deliver up to 45W.

Huawei’s Fast Charge Protocol is split into two parts: FCP (Fast Charge Protocol) and SCP (Super Charge Protocol), the latter of which can handle up to 40W.

Safe phone charging

There are hundreds of cheap phone chargers on the market, but we strongly advise you to buy from a trusted brand, such as the manufacturers listed here, which will have engineered short-circuit and high-voltage protection, as well as temperature control, to protect not only your phone but also your home from damage.

Best Phone & Tablet USB Charger reviews

1. Anker 313 Charger (Ace, 45W) – Best overall phone charger

Best Phone Chargers ANKER

Port: 45W

Fast charging: PD 3.0 (Apple); Quick Charge 4.0; Samsung Super Fast Charging 2.0; FCP/SCP

This new Anker USB-C charger is more powerful than most evaluated here, and it enables the latest 45W Super Fast Charging 2.0 for the newest Samsung phones, ranging from the Galaxy S22 line to the S23 Ultra phones.

It is also suitable with rapid charging for other phone models, including Apple’s iPhone and Huawei. Its 45W output is greater than what the iPhone needs for rapid charging, but it will not damage the iPhone by being so strong, and it will also charge a MacBook Air or other small laptops.

The Anker 313 Ace 45W Charger is extremely potent but still very compact, thanks to GaN technology. The Type G UK plug variant weights a little more at 80g and measures 48.5–44–42.55mm, while the US version weighs 71g (the smallest on test here) and measures 38–35–41mm (excluding prongs).

The US model has foldable prongs that allow it to fit easily into a pocket, and while the UK model has a permanent outlet, it is still small for the power it provides.

It’s strong enough to charge a compact laptop at 45W, so you might not need to bring more than one adapter between home and workplace or on your trips.

2. Ugreen AceCube 30W USB-C GaN Charger – Best iPhone charger

Best Phone Chargers UGREEN

Port: 30W

Fast charging: PD 3.0 (Apple); Quick Charge 4.0; Samsung Super Fast Charging; FCP/SCP

This GaN USB-C Charger is tiny and made even more compact by the fact that both the US and UK versions have foldable prongs, making them easy to slip into your purse.

It weights 82g and measures 32.5-x-31.5-x-39.6mm, which makes it slightly heavier and bigger than the Anker 711 described below—but not by much.

It supports the PD 3.0/2.0, QC 4.0/3.0/2.0, PPS, and BC 1.2 rapid charge standards, as well as Samsung Super Fast Charging at 25W.

We suggest it particularly for iPhone users because it provides as fast charging as iPhones enable at a slightly lower price than the Anker 313 Ace 45W Charger reviewed above. It’s also a good option for Android phones. It supports Samsung Super Fast Charging but not Super Fast Charging 2.0 because its maximum charging power is 30W.

The black or white variant is offered in the United States. The UK variant is a lovely silvery gray hue.

3. Anker 511 20W Charger (Nano Pro) – Best value USB-C iPhone charger

Best Phone Chargers ANKER

Port: 20W

Fast charging: PD 3.0 (Apple); Quick Charge 4.0; Samsung Adaptive Fast Charging

Another Anker specialty charger, this GaN charger is lightweight and readily portable, making it easy to keep on hand for unexpected top-ups.

Its 20W power is sufficient for rapid charging an iPhone (from iPhone 8 onward), but it does not enable Samsung Super Fast Charging for the Galaxy S20, S21, or Note 10/10+/20/20 Ultra.

The UK variant resembles Apple’s old 5W adapter but is far more powerful.

It comes in four different colors: Polar White, Black Ice, Glacier Blue, and Cool Purple.

4. Minix 66W NEO P1 Turbo Wall Charger – Best USB-A/USB-A multiport and travel charger

Best Phone Chargers MINX

Ports: 2x 65W, 1x 36W

Fast charging: PD 3.0 (Apple); Quick Charge 3.0; Samsung Super Fast Charging; FCP

With 66W of juice to operate with, this USB charger features two USB-C (Power Delivery 3.0) and one USB-A (Quick Charge 3.0) ports, allowing you to charge your mid-sized laptop, smartphone, and another USB device all at once.

It allows two 30W streams or one 45W and one 18W when using two ports at the same time. Using all three allows for 30W and two 18W charges.

It also includes UK and EU adapters that slide onto the foldable US prongs, making it the ideal trip partner.

While bigger than single-port adapters, it is not enormous.

5. Anker 711 Nano II 30W Fast Charger – Tiny USB-C charger

Port: 30W

Fast charging: PD 3.0 (Apple); Quick Charge 4.0; Samsung Super Fast Charging; FCP/SCP

Anker’s ultra-compact single-port 30W charger employs cutting-edge Gallium Nitride (GaN) technology, making it a quarter of the size of silicon-based versions.

Anker’s Nano II chargers transmit energy more effectively and at twice the frequency of the first iteration of GaN.

The 30W variant (711 in Anker’s inventory) is the smallest at this power level that we’ve seen. It weights only 73g and measures 31.5×30.4×37.9mm, making it (slightly) smaller than the Ugreen 30W charger discussed above.

Power Delivery, Rapid Charge, Anker’s PowerIQ smart charging, and PPS are all supported. This means it can fast-charge devices like the Samsung Galaxy S20, which use the Super Fast Charging protocol to meet their unique charging standards.

The prongs aren’t flexible, which would have made it even more portable, but it’s still a very small charger that’s suitable for all phones.

6. SyncWire 40W Dual Type-C Convertible Plugs Type Charger – Best budget travel charger

Ports: 2x 20W

Fast charging: PD 3.0 (Apple)

This SyncWire USB-C charger has two 20W outlets and adjustable adapters for the United States, United Kingdom, and Europe.

This small battery is ideal for travel, and the included adaptors make it even more convenient. (Please keep in mind that it cannot be used in Australia, South Africa, or India.)

This is a PD charger that does not support Quick Charge but does have a maximum output power of 20W on each of its two USB-C ports. You must provide your own power cord.

When connected, a thin LED band around each port illuminates brilliantly, making it simple to put in your devices in a darkened room.

7. Alogic Rapid Power 30W Mini Car Charger

Ports: 1x 30W (2x 12W)

Fast charging: PD 3.0 (Apple)

Using your phone while driving is a huge no-no, but it’s a wonderful opportunity to catch up on charging before you hit the road.

Alogic offers two USB phone vehicle adapters. The Rapid Power 30W Small Vehicle Battery comes in two varieties. This model has two contemporary USB-C connections. The other has both USB-C and USB-A connections, which is useful if your charging cord has the traditional rectangular connector.

Fast-charge with a single connection (USB-C) or charge two devices simultaneously, with each socket providing 12W of power.

8. Spigen PowerArc 20W ArcStation Pro

Port: 20W

Fast charging: PD 3.0 (Apple)

This GaN USB-C charger is one of the smallest and most inexpensive we tried (39.4-x-34.5-x-27.7mm). It has a charging capability of 20W, which is sufficient to charge most contemporary phones quickly, and it supports PD 3.0 but not Quick Charge or Samsung’s Adaptive Fast Charging.

The folding outlet prongs on the US variant are not present on the UK iteration.

Ports: 1x 18W

Fast charging: Quick Charge 3.0

This 18W Quick Charge adapter comes from one of the most well-known charging brands and represents excellent value. It can power non-Quick Charge gadgets at a maximum of 12W.

The PowerPort +1 is ultra-slim, but it has more squared-off edges than others. It appeals to us.
