CES 2023: announcements, new features, the largest tech fair opens today

We expose the novelties and speculations about the items and technology of the 2023 CES in Las Vegas just hours before it opens. AG4TECH takes stock of processors, graphics cards, foldable screens, and electric automobiles.

The Holy Forest’s waking is typically followed by a liver and hangover crises, but also by a geek event, maybe even the world technology event. Of course, I’m referring to the Consortium Electronics Show (CES), which will be held in Las Vegas from January 5 to 8, 2023. It is a massive barnum where the titans of computers, telecommunications, HiFi, and video rub hands with start-ups from all around the world.

CES 2023

More than 3,100 exhibitors, 173 nations represented, 4,700 media recorded, and around 200,000 people crisscrossing the 250,000 m 2 (forty soccer fields) Las Vegas Convention and World Trade Center (LVCC)… CES numbers are astounding. Beyond a company’s spectacular technology presentation, geopolitics is at stake. Small and huge multinational corporations both sense the pulse of technology… and spy on competitors and go fishing for news.

It is the fair of regeneration in 2023, not the living room of all superlatives. After two years of health crises and societal estrangement, marketing teams are keen to demonstrate progress and pawn the piece to their competitors. However, the recovery is still shaky. The CES had just 40,000 visitors in January 2022, a far cry from the normal proportions. Many details are under NDA (non-disclosure agreements), and announcements will be made from January 5 to 8, 2023, with market players making announcements before to the CES. There is also a plethora of home appliance information, such as this Samsung refrigerator with a 32″ screen.

SMARTPHONES & TABLETS

Stuck between the consumer-oriented European IFA (Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin) and the professional MWC (Mobile World Congress) from Barcelona, the Las Vegas exhibition was neither the location or the strategic moment for the smartphone and tablet industry. We will, however, keep focused on the Samsung and LG booths. The latter debuted a picture module with zooms ranging from x4 to x9.

PROCESSORS AND GRAPHICS CARDS

Despite advances in telework, the personal computer market is stagnating. AMD, Intel, and Qualcomm are likely to save surprises until the CES 2023 in Las Vegas. At the time, rumors trump certainty. The unofficial launch date for new Ryzen CPUs based on the Zen 4 architecture would be January 10. These Ryzen 7000 non-X, non-overclockable processors would be slower, but less energy-consuming (just 65W TDP) and more wallet-friendly. It may also be a chance for AMD to enter the mobile processor industry… A priori, nothing new on graphics cards.

In this sense, NVidia will also deliver a keynote, but it will be completely dematerialized and pre-recorded. The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti has now been formally revealed by the GPU creator. The first portable PCs are revealed, while information on the iconic 40 series has already been provided.

They are outfitted with Intel 13e generation CPUs (up to i9-13980HX), RTX 40XX graphics cards (of which 4090), and a mini-LED slab (2560 x 1600 pixels @ 240 Hz). The Strix SCAR 17 and G17 will also benefit from the new Nvidia RTX, although without the mini-LED slab and with AMD Ryzen 9 Zen 4 CPUs. While 3D televisions are no longer a selling factor, Asus has introduced a new high-end portable PC for creatives. The Asus ProArt Studiobook 16 3D OLED (H7604) is the first notebook with a 16-inch autostereoscopic OLED screen. In other words, there is no need to use active or passive (three-dimensional) glasses. He will be in charge of the aforementioned Intel CPU and GPU. The same electrical components will be available in the Vivobook 16X 3D OLED (K6604), but without the ProArt chassis ( with a design designed specifically for digital creation ).

Acer is also updating its Nitro laptop lineup with Intel series 13 CPUs and RTX 4000 series graphics cards. The Acer Nitro 16 has the ability to switch between the graphic chipset and the Nvidia Geforce RTX card. The Acer Nitro 17 is updated with two fans with four air exits and the usage of liquid metal rather than the traditional thermal pulp. In the higher-end gaming market, the Predator now includes 13e generation i7 or i9 CPUs, as well as GPUs such as the RTX 4070 and Mini-LED tiles. These screens use the AUO AmLED technology, which allows for a maximum brightness of more than 1000 nits, a contrast ratio of 1000 000: 1, and complete DCI-P3 color coverage.

The Samsung Galaxy Book2 Go was previously revealed at the end of 2022, but CES 2023 will undoubtedly be the first chance to view and interact with it. Remember that this second generation of laptops is powered by Qualcomm rather than AMD or Intel. The Galaxy Book2 Go is a 14-inch IPS Full HD tablet powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7c + Gen 3 processor. Its commercialization should begin on January 20, 2023.

Foldable, pivotable, windable, translucent slabs of various shapes and sizes will undoubtedly be among the finest at CES 2023. The 2022 IFA in Berlin heightened our interest in gaming screens, and the Electronics Show Consortium should confirm this. Dell is supposed to be revealing a slab with a hallucinatory refresh rate of 480 Hz, overclockable to 500 Hz! For the aspirants, a dinguery.

Samsung, on the other hand, intends to make a statement by displaying a flexible and extended screen. Faced with his compatriot’s stronghold on OLED and LG Rollable’s modest assault, the South Korean behemoth wants to demonstrate its supremacy on rollable… and conventional devices. Samsung intends to reveal the Odyssey Neo G9 screen. The specs are incredible: a “small” 57-inch slab, 8K with tiny LED technology and a refresh rate of 240 Hz. The immersiveness should be there even in the absence of holography.

MOBILITY

Thermal engines have become the animals of our time, whether in times of crisis, sobriety, or simple energy transition. When some firms attempt different approaches, they convert their plants to hybrid or even 100% electric. Volkswagen introduces ID.7, a new electric vehicle line. The German company takes over the MEB platform for the’ID Aero. Little is known at this time, save that the purpose is to minimize energy consumption through improved aerodynamics. In addition to voice instructions, the controls will be grouped on a huge 15-inch touch screen. Stellantis, a French wine, should not be neglected in the Las Vegas living room cuvée 2023. Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, an American tire expert, has introduced a tire composed with more than 90% durable materials at CES 2023. This eco-friendly tire is made up of 17 different materials, including polyester (from recycled bottles) and soybean oil (for flexibility).

CONNECTED HOUSE

On the Internet of Things front, innovation is not suffering. The French company Withings has just released the U-Scan. Because it performs urinalysis, this gadget is to be put in the toilet bowl. This linked object is more than just a Japanese gadget; it monitors not only its menstrual cycle, but also its food balance (hydration, minerals, vitamins, ketone levels for keto…) cuisines. The gadget can detect the user based on a variety of criteria. U-Scan will be available on the European market only in the second quarter of 2023, at a public price of 499.95 euros.

Aside from updating its PCs, Acer is making waves with an eco-friendly linked bike. This apartment bike, dubbed the eKinekt BD 3, is perfect for telework. Its tray allows you to cycle while working with a portable PC. This level slides to provide greater room and comfort when in sports mode. This bicycle is not only built of PCR (recycled plastic), but it is also created using energy. Acer guarantees that the eKinekt generates up to 75 watts per hour at 60 pedal spins per minute. For charging PCs and other mobile devices, the bodybuilding gadget features two USB type-A ports and one USB type-C port. A smartphone application, like any other linked gadget, displays information (distance, duration, speed, calories…) in real time.

Roborock, a specialist in connected vacuum cleaners, used the Las Vegas CES to update its product lines. The Roborock S8, S8 Plus, S8 Pro Ultra, and Dyad Pro are much better at cleaning floors. The S8s win a double rubber roller brush, while the RockDock Ultra uses a hot air system to dry the mop. When a carpet is detected, the latter will quickly respond.
