A quick look at the FlexiSpot AlcoveRiser M37B
A standing desk converter is a device that you may install on top of your existing desk or table. You can elevate the converter to standing desk height at any time using a mechanical lever (or, in some cases, electronics). This allows you to continue using your present sitting desk while still reaping the benefits of a standing desk as necessary.
The FlexiSpot AlcoveRiser M37B is one of the company’s best-selling products. It’s easy to understand why. It has all of the features you’d expect from a converter, including a detachable keyboard/laptop tray, a raised monitor stand, and high-quality construction materials.
Of course, it is not a completely functional system. There is no cup holder or smartphone slot, and the keyboard tray cannot be adjusted. It is currently only available in one color. However, given how affordable this device is, those omissions are minimal.
How do you install the FlexiSpot M37B?
When you take the FlexiSpot M37B out of the box, it is almost ready to use. You only need to attach the keyboard/laptop tray to the main unit, which does not require any equipment. After that, you’re finished. This low-effort setup is pretty refreshing in comparison to other standing desk converters I’ve used.
It took me longer to open the FlexiSpot M37B box than to assemble it.
What is the FlexiSpot M37B ?
The first thing I noticed when I took the M37B out of the box was how heavy it is; it weighs about 30 pounds and can hold up to 33 pounds of weight on its top. The keyboard/laptop tray is rated to hold 4.4 pounds, but I believe that’s a conservative estimate; it’s very sturdy and appears to be capable of holding more.
Because I have a black desk, the black M37B fits wonderfully. Unfortunately, the M37B is now only available in black, so if you want white or something more colorful, you’re out of luck. However, there will be a new version with a faux wood finish.
The FlexiSpot M37B is 28.4 inches wide at its widest point, with a base width of 27.6 inches. This fits perfectly on my pretty little desk, however you should definitely measure your surface to be sure it will fit before purchasing. FlexiSpot accepts returns, but you will have to pay for return shipping, which will likely cost you half of the product’s worth. Avoid this, and be sure to measure everything beforehand!
How do you adjust the FlexiSpot M37B?
A plastic lever is located directly beneath the main platform on the M37B’s right side. Pushing this lever up activates the converter’s hydraulic mechanism. With little effort, you may raise or lower the converter to your desired height. Once you’ve determined the appropriate height, simply let off of the lever, and it will come to a quick stop.
There are no fixed stopping places for raising or lowering the desk. You can effortlessly transition from one height to another and pause anytime in the middle. It’s also quite quiet when making adjustments; I didn’t notice any creaking or squeaking. Of course, this could become a problem after several years of use.
Adjusting the FlexiSpot M37B doesn’t require strength. All the job is done by it.
Unfortunately, the keyboard/laptop tray does not have any modifications. Snapping it in locks it in place. You can remove it if you like, but there are no other options available.
When the desk is at its lowest point, the top is 4.7 inches from the base. In its completely raised position, the top is 19.7 inches from the base’s bottom, providing approximately 15 inches of space for locking the desk.
How about the ergonomics?
The whole objective of purchasing a standing desk converter is to make you more comfortable at work. During my time with the device for this FlexiSpot M37B review, I discovered that the ergonomics were satisfactory. Not great, not terrible, but right in the middle.
I’m 5’10” and found it easy to adjust my display to eye-level. A considerably taller person may seek for additional height from the M37B. However, I still had a few inches to go before I thought the monitor was at an appropriate height. Obviously, the height of your sitting desk or table will have a significant impact on this.
Also, the keyboard/laptop tray was at an appropriate height. However, with a full keyboard and mouse on the tray, there was little place for my hands or arms (more on this in the following section). Sometimes I hoped I could rest my wrists on the tray, but there wasn’t enough room.
The one significant criticism I have about this product is that there is no way to level out the entire device. For whatever reason, the front left side of the stand did not sit flush with my desk, resulting in a minor wobbling. An adjustable foot would alleviate the problem, but that is not an option here. I ended up putting some papers below to level it out, which was an inelegant solution.
Is FlexiSpot AlcoveRiser M37B give enough space?

The top of this standing desk converter offers enough room for one computer display. My monitor is 24 inches and fits wonderfully. I’m sure I could have accommodated a larger monitor if I had one, but I doubt I could fit two. It’s possible that I could fit a second monitor on a portrait mode stand, but two monitors in landscape style would be incompatible.
Even with the monitor, there was still enough of space on top for a coffee mug, small picture frame, pencil cup, or other small desk accessories. There wasn’t much I couldn’t do with the top, which can support up to 33 pounds of weight.
The top level of the desk provides plenty working space, even with a monitor. However, the keyboard tray is somewhat cramped.
When I used my laptop instead, everything went much more smoothly. I had plenty of room for my Dell XPS 13 and could even rest my wrists next to it.
The final line is that if you want plenty of space for your keyboard and mouse, you should definitely acquire a larger standing desk converter, as this one is a little cramped.
What I loved about the FlexiSpot M37B
- It feels like a luxury device: The FlexiSpot M7B is solid and weighty, and it doesn’t feel cheap for the price.
- Almost no assembly necessary: If you do not utilize the keyboard/laptop tray, there is no assembly required.
- Simple to adjust: The rising and lowering operation was simple and quiet, requiring little strength or effort.
- Removeable tray: If you don’t want the keyboard/laptop tray, simply remove it. Reinstalling takes seconds, providing you some flexibility here.
FlexiSpot M37B review: Will you buy it?
Standing desk converters can be very pricey. FlexiSpot itself sells a model for roughly $250. The FlexiSpot M37B costs only $100, making it a steal not only on FlexiSpot’s roster but also in compared to comparable items.
Yes, there were some aspects of it that I didn’t like, namely the size of the keyboard and laptop tray. But at this cheap price, it’s difficult to complain about a solid, well-made, whisper-quiet, completely adjustable system.
Ultimately, for my specific use case, I would choose a larger (and more expensive) model to meet my space requirements. However, if you are willing to accept the FlexiSpot M37B’s various limitations, it is a fantastic value at its low list price.
