How to use AirPods with Android

Can you use AirPods on Android?

Since their release in December 2016, Apple’s AirPods have become extremely popular, creating several memes and demonstrating their cultural effect.

Unlike the Apple Watch, which is solely compatible with iOS, AirPods can connect to Android and other Bluetooth-enabled devices, but lack the smart features that make them more useful with Apple products.

If you don’t mind the absence of smart features, here’s how you can link AirPods to an Android phone or tablet. The same steps apply to all non-iOS devices, such as smartwatches and desktops.

How to connect AirPods to Android

Connecting your AirPods to an Android device is straightforward. Here are the steps:

  • Enable Bluetooth on your Android device

Navigate to your Android device’s settings menu and select Bluetooth.

Make sure Bluetooth is turned on. You may see a toggle switch or button to enable it.

  • Put your AirPods in pairing mode

With the AirPods inside, open the charging case’s lid. On the rear of the case, there is a little button.

Press and hold this button until the front of the case’s LED light begins to flash white. This shows that the AirPods are in pairing mode.

  • Pair AirPods with your Android device

Return to your Android device’s Bluetooth settings menu. You should see the option to scan for new devices. Tap this selection.

After a few seconds, your AirPods should appear on the list of accessible devices. They may be listed as “AirPods” or another name you’ve already given them.

Tap on your AirPods from the list. Your Android device will begin the pairing process.

  • Test the connection

Once connected, play some audio from your device to confirm that it is coming via the AirPods.

If you have any problems, return to Bluetooth settings and confirm the AirPods are listed as linked. You may need to disconnect and rejoin them as needed.

You can simply take advantage of the excellent sound quality and portability of AirPods on your Android phone or tablet by following these steps.
