Another iPhone release in a year. And, once again, if you want the finest of what Apple has to offer, you must focus on the Pro models in the lineup. Apple has maintained the same fundamental distinction between their phones for several years. There’s the standard range, which includes the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus this year. Then there are the Pro variants, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
For some years now, the’standard’ line has been slowing down, with fewer and smaller improvements and moving further away from the Pro models. Apple’s priority, on the other hand, is unquestionably the Pros. They receive all of the bells and whistles, new novelty features, and advancements that the Cupertino behemoth can produce.
Of course, the price reflects all of this, as does the quality of these phones. The materials, the design, and the user experience. All of these are of the highest quality.
With all of these benefits, choosing between the two Pro models becomes more difficult each year. Here is a detailed breakdown of the changes between the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. so you know which one is the best choice for you!
Differences between iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max
Regular iPhones and Pro iPhones might differ dramatically. Changes have occurred in processing power, design, capacities, and virtually every other sector. The same cannot be stated with the Professional models. Because the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max share practically everything, the distinctions between the two are considerably more minor. However, there are a few critical ones that may persuade you to select one over the other.
You should keep in mind that the majority of the specifications of these two phones are the identical. You get the latest A17 Pro chip, a new 48-megapixel camera, a titanium frame, the new Action Button, and (finally) a USB-C connector whether you buy an iPhone 15 Pro or a Pro Max. Here are the distinctions you should be aware of.
Size & screen
Let’s begin with the most obvious: the size of these phones. As the name implies, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is significantly larger than its Pro sibling. This may already be a decisive factor for you; some people like larger screens, while others want a lovely, compact, and pocketable smartphone. If money is no problem, the first group should go for the Pro Max, while the latter should continue with the Pro.
But what exactly are the dimensions of these phones?
- iPhone 15 Pro: 6.1-inch OLED screen with a resolution of 2556 x 1179 pixels
- iPhone 15 Pro Max: 6.7-inch OLED screen at 2796 x 1290 pixels
Both of these equate to a pixel density of 460ppi, so they’re equally sharp.
Both of these displays include a variable refresh rate of up to 120Hz, HDR and P3 color gamuts, and a peak brightness of 2000 nits. Except for the size of the screen, their specifications are nearly identical.
Of course, this has an influence on the size of cellphones.
- iPhone 15 Pro: 146.6 x 70.6 x 8.25mm (5.77 x 2.78 x 0.32 inches) and 187g (6.6oz)
- iPhone 15 Pro Max: 159.9 x 76.7 x 8.25mm (6.29 x 3.02 x 0.32 inches) and 221g (7.81oz)
Both of these, though, benefit from Apple’s newest premium material – titanium. They are also available in four other colors: black titanium, white titanium, blue titanium, and natural titanium.
Cameras
The cameras are, of course, one of the most notable elements of the iPhone 15 Pro series. There is a significant difference here.
The primary sensor on both phones has been upgraded to 48 megapixels. It is bigger than the one in the iPhone 14 Pro, allowing for even better low-light shooting. Variable (digital) focal lengths are also supported. This means you may select one of several presets, such as 24 mm, 28 mm, or 35 mm, and make it your normal shooting setting.
The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max likewise have the same ultrawide camera as last year–nothing new there.
However, the zoom photography capabilities of the two phones differ greatly. The iPhone 15 Pro includes a standard 12-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x magnification, which is equal to a 77mm lens. The iPhone 15 Pro Max, on the other hand, offers something we’ve been waiting for years to see: a 5x zoom periscope lens with 120mm (35mm lens equivalent) optical magnification.
This suggests that the iPhone 15 Pro Max will be a zoom photography champion (as least among iPhones). If you require that function and are always cropping your images, this may be the phone for you. Furthermore, this implies that the Pro Max has substantially superior maximum digital zoom. It can reach 25x, but the iPhone 15 Pro can only reach 15x zoom.
Of course, because it’s digital, this isn’t a ‘real’ zoom, and you could accomplish something similar in Photoshop, so the difference is virtually fake.
Storage
Storage may fall between the cracks when comparing phones, yet it is one of the most crucial aspects of your smartphone in everyday use. Taking wonderful images and movies and keeping all that valuable info on your new phone is fantastic until you run out of storage space. What happens next?
The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, like the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, have up to 1TB of internal storage. The base models, on the other hand, may surprise you. While the iPhone 15 Pro starts with 128GB, which is decent but somewhat limited in 2023, the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s base model has 256GB. This is why the Pro Max costs more: it has greater storage capacity for all those ProRes photographs and movies.
Battery
Once again, the battery is one of the key differences between the Pro and Pro Max iPhones. It’s easy to see why: the smaller phone must have a smaller battery. Apple offers up to 23 hours of video playback on the iPhone 15 Pro, and up to 29 hours on the iPhone 15 Pro Max. That’s quite a leap, but the promised endurance of the iPhone 15 Pro is also amazing, so you shouldn’t be concerned about battery life in either scenario.
Price & availability
The iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max will be available for pre-order on September 15, 2023, with an official release date of September 22, 2023.
The 256GB edition of the iPhone 15 Pro Max costs £1199/$1199. Meanwhile, the 128GB iPhone 15 Pro costs £999/$999, while the 256GB variant costs £1099/$1099. This indicates that the pricing difference between the two devices for the same storage tier is precisely £100/$100.
