Quest 3S Xbox Edition Box Seemingly Leaked, Rumored to Launch Next Week

A Quest 3S Xbox Edition box has reportedly leaked, a year after Meta announced a limited-edition Quest “inspired by Xbox,” and is set to release next week.

In April 2024, Meta announced the expansion of Quest’s Horizon OS to third-party headsets, as well as a collaboration with Microsoft to “create a limited-edition Meta Quest, inspired by Xbox,” and displayed a concept render of a black Quest 3 with a green facial interface.

At the time, Mark Zuckerberg revealed that the box will have an Xbox controller, allowing you to play Xbox Cloud Gaming without any other hardware.

Earlier today, 13 months later, gaming news outlet Game Sandwich published a story suggesting that the box will include a 128GB Quest 3S with black and green coloring and a matching Elite Strap, as well as the gamepad and three months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, for $400.

That would be $100 more than the ordinary Quest 3S, but $100 less than purchasing the Quest 3S, official Elite Strap, Xbox gamepad, and three months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate separately.

Following this report, VR developer RJ White shared the purported image of the box shown at the top of this story to X before swiftly deleting it. When asked by UploadVR about the image’s origins, White stated that it came from a Best Buy employee.

Interestingly, Meta’s Touch controllers are not shown in the leaked box, and the Game Sandwich report makes no mention of them either.

The Quest 3S Xbox Edition would continue Meta and Microsoft’s long-term strategic cooperation in XR, which was announced in 2022.

So far, the alliance has included Xbox Cloud Gaming and seamless Remote Desktop for Windows 11 PCs to Quest, as well as Office web apps. Now, it appears that the relationship will grow to include a hardware edition, but not the Xbox headset or Xbox console compatibility for VR that fans have been asking for for years.
