Samsung is best known for its flagship phones, but the firm also offers a wide range of more cheap smartphones.
This includes the Galaxy A14 from 2023, which is the greatest affordable phone available. The primary item you’re missing is 5G, which is available on the somewhat more costly Galaxy A14 5G.
However, as expected, focus has soon switched to their successors. And, with the Galaxy A15 and A15 5G already available in Vietnam, we already know a lot about them.
When will the Samsung Galaxy A15 be released?
The Galaxy A15 and A15 5G were formally unveiled in Vietnam and the Philippines on December 12, 2023, before being on sale four days later.
Both devices will be available in Europe “at the end of 2023 or very early in 2024,” according to the Dutch tech portal Galaxy Club. According to prior releases, it will most likely be the same time in North America.
According to the Korean site SBS Biz (via SamMobile), Samsung will conduct an event for the Galaxy S24 series in San Francisco on January 17, 2024. Could the A14 and A14 5G both be released in Europe at the same time?
For context, here’s when the previous phones were released:
- Samsung Galaxy A14 – February 2023
- Samsung Galaxy A14 5G – January 2023
- Samsung Galaxy A13 – March 2022
- Samsung Galaxy A13 5G – December 2021
Assuming Samsung continues with the same rough update cycle, it’s highly likely that we’ll see the A15 phones globally in early 2024.
How much will the Samsung Galaxy A15 cost?
So far, we only have pricing for the phones in Vietnam and the Philippines, where Samsung has already launched them:
- Samsung Galaxy A15 – from VND 4,990,000/PHP 9,990 (approx. £150/$190)
- Samsung Galaxy A15 5G – from VND 6,290,000/PHP 10,990 (approx. £170/$230)
However, because the UK and US values are just straight translations, they will not be completely correct. Both are expected to cost roughly €200, with “the 4G model just below, and the 5G model just above.”
It’s possible that the pricing will be much the same as the 2023 models:
- Samsung Galaxy A14 – £179/$150
- Samsung Galaxy A14 5G – £219/$199.99
However, it would be nice to see the UK and US figures matched. Currently, UK customers are paying significantly more for the same experience.
What specs and features will the Samsung Galaxy A15 have?
With the Galaxy A15 and A15 5G now available in Vietnam, we know exactly what to anticipate. The worldwide versions of both phones are unlikely to vary significantly.
Let’s start with the standard 4G model, which appears to be a good advance over the Galaxy A14. The A15 now has the typical CPU update, with the MediaTek Helio G99 chipset powering it. However, the A14 utilized the Exynos 850 in some areas, so it’s possible that it’ll be the same again.
The entry-level 64GB model appears to have been dropped in favor of 4-, 6-, or 8GB of RAM and 128- or 256GB of storage. If you’re still concerned about running out of storage space, Micro-SD cards are still supported.
The most noticeable enhancements, however, are to the display. The 6.6-inch, 60Hz LCD display on the A14 has been replaced with a 6.5-inch, 90Hz OLED, which should be a significant improvement. Its FHD+ resolution is nearly same, but you should notice a difference when comparing the two.
The 5000mAh battery capacity remains intact, while USB-C charging power increases from 15W to 25W. However, a charger is unlikely to be included in the box.
However, it does not appear like the cameras are receiving much attention, at least in terms of hardware. You still get a triple rear configuration with 50Mp main, 5Mp ultrawide, and 2Mp lenses, as well as a 13Mp selfie lens. Let’s hoping Samsung has improved the software processing to make the already good photographic experience even better.
There are just three upgrades available on the more costly A15 5G. It is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ chipset (at least in Vietnam), which appears to be substantially more powerful than both the A15 and the A14 5G’s Dimensity 700.
That chip, as the name implies, supports 5G. A gyroscope sensor is also included, allowing you to view 360-degree photographs and movies.
Aside than that, the phone is identical. However, the 6.5-inch, 90Hz OLED display is an improvement over the A14 5G.
At launch, both new phones will run Samsung’s newest One UI 6 interface atop Android 14. If the promise to updates remains the same, they may get Android 16 and upgrades until 2027, but nothing else.
