Qualcomm hosts its Snapdragon Summit every year to showcase its latest technologies. The new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, which will power all 2023 flagships, is undoubtedly the standout.

Every year, Qualcomm announces with considerable hoopla the SoC that will power the vast majority of flagships that will be introduced in the coming months. Qualcomm does not guarantee a revolution in CPU performance for its new processor, even if the claimed rise of 35% is impressive, in order to focus on other more vital improvements. Remember that a SoC is a chip made up of numerous parts, each of which has an effect on how you use your smartphone.

As a result, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is heavily reliant on “Snapdragon Smart,” Qualcomm’s term for anything AI-related. The company claims “up to 4.35 times higher performance in AI.” What enables speedier real-time translations and the management of many languages in simultaneously.

Obviously, AI will play a part in photo processing, as will a better ISP for the occasion. The picture and video engine is geared to handling 200 MP photographs and 8K HDR capture. Qualcomm now claims to be able to better grasp a photograph by recognizing faces, hair, clothing, the sky, and so on, and to distinguish image processing for each of these discovered aspects.

Qualcomm also highlights the enhancements made to its Adreno GPU, which will gain 25% in performance. Above all, Vulkan 1.3 compatibility enables this Snapdragon to manage ray tracing natively and in hardware for the first time. MetaHumans bluffs from Unreal Engine will also be supported.

Decoding now includes AV1 compatibility, allowing it to play films up to 8K HDR at 60 frames per second.

Finally, there’s connection, which is unavoidable on a processor designed for cellphones. Behind the enhancements made to 5G is the debut of support for Wi-Fi 7 and various Bluetooth upgrades. Wireless audio, in particular, should see its latency fall below 48 ms in video games.

SMARTPHONES FROM 2022 :

The good news is that we won’t have to wait until 2023 to see the first smartphones equipped with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Qualcomm intends to launch the first products before the end of 2022.
