The Witcher season 4 potential release date, news and cast

To say the least, the season 3 conclusion of The Witcher was intense. As Geralt and his comrades fought more strong opponents than they’d ever seen before, tragedies struck left, right, and center.

The series, based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s series of fantasy novels, is one of Netflix’s hallmark products, so season 4 is unsurprising. We’ve compiled all of the most crucial details regarding the show’s upcoming phase.

The Witcher season 4 release date

Netflix announced the fourth installment of The Witcher in October 2022. Filming was scheduled to begin in May 2023. However, production was halted owing to WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.

After securing an agreement with studios and streaming platforms, the screenwriters resumed to work on the series in October 2023. The same cannot be true for the actors now on strike against The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). As a result, according to Redanian Intelligence, filming has been postponed till an unspecified date in 2024.

For now, it’s hard to say when The Witcher season 4 may be released. Most probably, we won’t see the show’s new episodes until 2025 at the earliest.

Who’s in the cast for season 4?

The fourth season of The Witcher is going to undergo a casting revolution. Netflix has revealed that Henry Cavill would be departing the series, and Liam Hemsworth will take over as Geralt.

The announcement surprised fans, especially because Cavill had been contending for the lead role. Although neither Netflix nor the actor have acknowledged the reasons behind the decision, it is widely assumed that Cavill departed due to growing discontent with the series’ direction.

However, we assume that other actors known from previous seasons will return to their roles. This could include the following:

  • Freya Allan – Ciri
  • Anya Chalotra – Yennefer
  • Joey Batey – Jaskier
  • Anna Shaffer – Triss Merigold
  • Eamon Farren – Cahir aep Ceallach
  • Mahesh Jadu – Vilgefortz
  • Mimi Ndiweni – Fringilla
  • Lars Mikkelsen – Stregobor
  • Mecia Simson – Francesca Findabair
  • Royce Pierreson – Istredd
  • Therica Wilson-Read – Sabrina Glevissig
  • Cassie Clare – Phillipa
  • Graham McTavish – Dijkstra
  • Ben Radcliffe – Giselher
  • Christelle Elwin – Mistle
  • Fabian McCallum – Kayleigh
  • Aggy K. Adams – Iskra
  • Juliette Alexandra – Reef
  • Connor Crawford – Asse
  • Wilson Mbomio – Dara
  • Bart Edwards – Emperor Emhyr
  • Hugh Skinner – Radovid
  • Meng’er Zhang – Milva

Tissaia (MyAnna Buring), Lydia (Aisha Fabienne Ross), Rience (Sam Woolf), Filavandrel (Tom Canton), Artorius (Terence Maynard), and Gallatin (Robbie Amell) will not return in Season 4.

Season 4 of the series will also include Emiel Regis, a fan favorite surgeon from the novels and games, according to Redanian Intelligence. There is speculation that he will be played by a well-known Hollywood actor.

What will the plot of season 4 be?

The series’ fourth season will be based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s novel Baptism of Fire, the third volume in the so-called Witcher trilogy. However, considering that the show’s creators have frequently deviated from the novels, it’s impossible to predict what events from the book will make it into the series.

A squad is created in Baptism of Fire to seek for Ciri, who went missing during the Thanedd Coup. Geralt and Jaskier, accompanied by the archer Milva, travel the war-torn continent, where they encounter dwarf Zoltan Chivay, Cahir aep Ceallach, and the enigmatic Emiel Regis. This thread in the series is expected to remain untouched.

Ciri joins the Rats during this time, a group of adolescent criminals active in assaults and robberies. During her time with the crew, she allows the evil half of her personality to emerge, but she also finds love.

What awaits Yennefer in Season 4 is tough to anticipate. In the book, she remains as a guest with Francesca Findabair, who protected her from the magician Rience during the Thanedd Coup. Philippa Eilhart established a secret Lodge of Sorceresses during this period to safeguard the interests of magicians and affect the course of the world. Yennefer is given the option to join the conspiracy, but she is not enthusiastic about the notion.

We will surely witness the Lodge’s operations in Season 4, but we do not yet know what part Yennefer will play in it.

How to watch the next series of The Witcher

As with Wonka, this is a Netflix original, so it’s no surprise that it’s only available on the streaming site.

If you don’t already have a Netflix membership, you may join up on the website and compare it to the top streaming services to see how it compares.

Will there be a season 5 of The Witcher?

Season 4 filming will be followed immediately by season 5 production, according to The Witcher’s casting director Sophie Holland. However, there is no word on when this will be available.
