Xiaomi 15 series probably the first to have Snapdragon 8 Gen 4

Users’ attention is shifting to Xiaomi’s upcoming flagship line, the Xiaomi 15 series, as the excitement surrounding the Xiaomi 14 series is beginning to wane.

The most encouraging rumor to date is that Qualcomm’s next-generation Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset may make its debut in these handsets. New periscope cameras for the Xiaomi 15 Pro and 15 Ultra are rumored to be coming, though.

This is all the information we currently have on the Xiaomi 15 series, including the price, release date, and anticipated features.

When will the Xiaomi 15 be released?

Regarding its next flagship lineup, Xiaomi has not yet released any information. Here is the debut date of the previous models for your reference:

  • Xiaomi 13 – December 2022 (China), March 2023 (global)
  • Xiaomi 12 – December 2021 (China), March 2022 (global)

Based on this, we’d expect Xiaomi 15 series to be unveiled in December 2024 in China, before a global launch in March 2025.

But things might change if the rumors about it being the first Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 phone come to pass. The next flagship phone chip from Qualcomm is expected to be unveiled during the Snapdragon Summit, which takes place in October 21–23. This means that it may arrive in China earlier than usual. GSMArena thinks it might indicate a launch in October.

The Xiaomi 15, Xiaomi 15 Pro, and Xiaomi 15 Ultra are the three variants we anticipate seeing. Like the Xiaomi 14 Pro, the Xiaomi 15 Pro might never make it outside of China.

Expect none of the 15 series phones to ever be available in the US, as is the case with all Xiaomi phones. Importing one will be your best option in that situation.

How much will the Xiaomi 15 cost?

Similar to the release date, no information has been released about the price of the new models, so we turn to the past for guidance.

The launch prices for the preceding generations are as follows:

In comparison to the 12 series, there were minor price increases in the 13 range; however, the 14 series maintained the same prices. When the Xiaomi 15 range is released, we believe Xiaomi will probably stay in the same price ranges.

Nevertheless, the Xiaomi 15, Xiaomi 15 Pro, and Xiaomi 15 Ultra may cost more than their predecessors, according to Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station. However, it’s unclear by how much more costly.

What specs and features will the Xiaomi 15 have?

There aren’t many leaks or rumors concerning the Xiaomi 15 series at this time.

On the other hand, April marked the start of the Xiaomi 15 series’ next round of internal testing, and September of this year will see the commencement of mass production, according to Digital Chat Station.

This suggests that there’s a good chance we’ll learn a lot more about these gadgets soon.

Design

Details concerning the fingerprint scanner in the Xiaomi 15 series were leaked by Notebookcheck, who revealed that the optical fingerprint technology used in the Xiaomi 14 series will be replaced by single-point ultrasonic technology.

Because ultrasonic fingerprint identification works by using ultrasonic waves beneath the screen, it typically offers higher security and dependability. It is also typically faster, more accurate, and more water-resistant.

Display

According to Digital Chat Station (via Gizmochina), in December 2023, the regular Xiaomi 15 will continue to have a 6.36-inch display, just like the Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 14. Xiaomi does not plan to use a curved panel on the regular model, in contrast to the Pro variation.

The leak further claims that the panel would have a power-efficient 120Hz LTPO refresh rate technology and a maximum brightness of 1400 nits.

Details regarding the upcoming Xiaomi 15 Pro have also been revealed by Digital Chat Station in posts dated June 2024 (via GSMArena) and the same post from June 2024.

It is rumored to have a micro-curved screen with “2K” resolution, similar to the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, with even thinner bezels than the Xiaomi 14 Pro, dropping from 0.9mm to an amazing 0.6mm.

Performance

October is expected to see the release of Qualcomm’s forthcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset, which will probably power high-end smartphones.

A typically trustworthy source, Yogesh Brar, claims that Xiaomi appears to have an exclusive agreement to use the chipset initially. This indicates that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will probably be included for the first time in the Xiaomi 15 series.

Cameras

The Omnivision OV64B, a 64Mp sensor seen in a number of POCO, Redmi, and Xiaomi devices, including the Poco X6 Pro, is reportedly something Xiaomi intends to use in the Xiaomi 15 Pro. Though the Xiaomi 15 Pro is said to use this sensor for periscope telephoto capabilities, the Poco X6 Pro uses it as its primary camera.

A 200Mp periscope camera with a 3x to 5x variable zoom length may be included in the Xiaomi 15 Ultra.

It is anticipated that the primary cameras will stay at 50Mp in spite of these modifications. Based on a May Weibo post from Digital Chat Station, GSMArena claims that “the Xiaomi 15 and 15 Pro will both feature a customised OmniVision 50mp main snapper with a 1/1.3-inch sensor size and a large (but undisclosed) aperture.”

The leaker claims in a more recent article (via GSMArena) that the Xiaomi 15 Pro will come with a new 50Mp single aperture main camera with a “super large” sensor, taking the place of the previous model’s variable aperture. It might also be marginally slimmer and have a 50Mp 3x telephoto periscope zoom camera.

A new multi-layer anti-reflection coating that aims to improve light transmission and lessen glare and ghosting may also be included in both phones.

Battery & charging

The Xiaomi 15 and 15 Pro are said to have high-density batteries, while Notebookcheck claims that these batteries’ capacities are still unknown.

Recall that the Xiaomi 14 has a 4,610mAh battery that can be quickly charged with both 50W wireless charging and a 90W wired option.

In contrast, the 14 Pro has a 4,880mAh battery and can charge at both 120W cable and 50W wireless.

The 14 Ultra’s 5300mAh battery is substantially bigger than the 14 Pro’s 4880mAh cell, even though 90W cable charging actually takes longer. There is 80W Qi wireless charging to make up for it.

Software

It is highly probable that the Xiaomi 15 series will ship pre-installed with HyperOS and Android 14. Nonetheless, it’s also quite likely that it will launch with Android 15 installed, considering the anticipated December release date in China.
