Consider the ease of grinding your coffee beans in the middle of a forest, on a mountain summit, or just in your own backyard, all without the need for an electrical connection. The MILLAB E01 wireless portable electric coffee grinder is intended to make this fantasy a reality for coffee lovers. This device is more than just convenient; it is about precision and the ability to drink a freshly ground cup of coffee anywhere you want.
When I saw MILLAB – Wireless Portable Electric Coffee Grinder and its demo videos, it almost seemed too good to be true: it doesn’t take up much counter space, it’s portable, it has a sleek aesthetic, and, most importantly, it’s designed by TIMEMORE, who previously created one of the best coffee grinders chosen by Wirecutter. It checked off all of my boxes.
Unboxing
Well inside the beautiful box we find:
- Electric Grinder.
- Stand.
- Power Cord (Cable Type-C).
- Air Blow.
- Brush.
- Cloth Bag.
- Spray Bottle.
The MILLAB E01 grinder feels solid and takes up even less counter space than my last grinder; for reference, the base of the grinder stand is around the size of my palm.
Millab’s design revolves around the groundbreaking S2C890 grinder burr, a TIMEMORE engineering masterpiece. This technology employs a ‘Spike to Cut’ grinding method, which ensures that the coffee grounds are uniform, hence improving the flavor of the coffee. The consistency of the grind is critical for producing the perfect cup, and Millab excels in this regard because to its unique adjusting mechanism. It has 60 high-precision settings, which enable for adjustments as small as 0.025mm. This rigorous control is essential for producing everything from a powerful French press to a delicate espresso, with 20 clicks of accuracy to tailor the grind to your own preferences.
The MILLAB E01 grinder’s mobility is powered by two powerful 2500mAh lithium batteries. These batteries can grind over 130 cups of pour-over coffee or more than 30 cups of espresso on a single charge. This kind of battery life is a huge advantage for individuals who prefer being outside, travel regularly, or simply enjoy a fresh cup of coffee while on the go.
Testing it
I normally grind 2 tbsp of coffee beans to make a pour over, and grind 4 tbsp of coffee beans for French press. For MILLAB E01 to grind 2 tbsp(~20g) of coffee beans, coarse grinds (dial 18) took me about 35 seconds and fine grinds (dial 2) took me about 70 seconds; 4 tbsp (~40g) coffee beans took me 80 seconds for coarse grinds. It turns off automatically a few seconds after the grinding cycle is over.
The great reason I wanted to replace my home grinder was that it didn’t grind uniformly. I compared the grinds from MILLAB E01 to those from my old grinder and discovered that MILLAB E01’s grinds were significantly more consistent. I made French Press with it, and it tasted noticeably smoother than the previous French Press I made at home with my old grinder.
Weeks Later of using it
I’ve been using MILLAb E01 for two weeks, and it’s certainly growing on me.
- It is better than my old grinder
- It is easy to use and doesn’t require any attention once I start the grinding cycle
- It has a sleek aesthetic and requires very little counter space
- It is wireless so you can place it on any flat surface you like
- It requires minimal maintenance – A fully charged unit can generally be used for 4 months if used once a day. The MILLAB team shared with me that it takes about 4 hours to fully charge its battery. I haven’t had a chance to go through an entire charging cycle at this time.
Final Thoughts
- I had the grinder mounted on the stand, and a little amount of grinds came out through the gap between the grinder and its holder when grinding, necessitating some cleaning.
- The bean hopper has a maximum capacity of 50g (~5 tbsp), whereas the container has a maximum capacity of 30g. This is not a concern for me, but it is worth noting.
Overall, it’s price is around 259$ I believe the MILLAB E01 has all of the attributes I was seeking for, and I would encourage anyone looking for a new grinder to try it out. Support the MILLAB – Wireless Portable Electric Coffee Grinder campaign today! and check their website to buy one.
