Every year Black Friday falls the day after Thanksgiving, which we appreciate means little here in the UK. This year, Black Friday is on 24 November 2023 which means Cyber Monday is on 27 November 2023. Expect huge discounts all weekend in between, and most likely in the week of Cyber Monday too.
What is Black Friday?
Following a holiday of giving gratitude for family, friends, and a stable existence, American merchants choose to combine Thanksgiving with a massive day of commercial spending. Who were we, Brits, to resist the draw of deeply reduced goods?
It is debatable whether Black Friday refers to a day when shops finally went “into the black,” indicating they earned a profit for the year due to increased sales, or if it evolved from a description of terrible traffic in Philadelphia on the Friday after Thanksgiving.
When Black Friday initially became famous roughly ten years ago, it was common to see newsreels of people physically fighting over large TVs in the center of Walmart.
You can’t really blame them, because store fights were common. However, with the advent of internet shopping, Black Friday has evolved into a significant business for companies.

The most crucial question to ask oneself when deciding whether something is a good deal is, “Would I still want and buy this if it was full price?” Often, the answer is no, which means you should consider whether you’re saving money with a discount or spending money in the thrill of a sale.
