One Piece season 2 introduces its Dr Kureha and Dr Hiriluk

After a long hiatus, news about the One Piece season 2 has finally arrived. Netflix has chosen numerous actors to play the residents of Drum Island, a unique region on the Grand Line.

In the past, Netflix has had little success with live-action anime adaptations. The infamous Death Note film from 2017 received widespread criticism, and Cowboy Bebop was cancelled after only one season. However, one production has defied the norm.

The live-action series One Piece, based on Eiichirō Oda’s manga, has achieved surprise success. According to Netflix’s website, the show earned up to 18.5 million views in its first weekend following launch.

The secret to its popularity is that it maintains the essence of the original while also featuring terrific casting, imaginative scenography, and excellent CGI. It’s no surprise that viewers are looking forward to the show’s next installment. Here’s all you need know about the second season of One Piece.

One Piece season 2 potential release date

Netflix has officially renewed One Piece for a second season. Check out the official release below, which also reveals that Tony Tony Chopper will join the crew:

The show’s producers, Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements, previously told Variety that the scripts were ready to go, but they couldn’t film until the SAG-AFTRA strike was settled. The couple projected that the series would take 12 to 18 months to air.

That follows a similar timeline as season 1. Production on this began in January 2022 and concluded in August of the same year, however the show did not premiere on Netflix until a year later. According to that information, we won’t see One Piece season 2 until 2025.

One Piece season 2 plot

Eiichirō Oda’s manga is one of the most long Japanese series, containing over 1,000 chapters and published in 106 volumes. Netflix adapted only 95 chapters for the show’s first season, but the showrunners still have plenty of material to cover.

Season 1 focused on the crew’s formation, establishing common aims, and combating the Marines. The Straw Hat Pirates’ decision to sail to the Grand Line is anticipated to kick off the major treasure hunt in season 2. The journey is unlikely to be peaceful: the crew must navigate a stretch of sea known as the Calm Belt, which is filled with huge creatures.

In addition, Vice Admiral Garp and the Marines will most likely continue to track the teenage pirates. The Straw Hat Pirates may have to face off against the evil Baroque Works. As you may recall, Roronoa Zoro killed one of its members in the first episode of the series.

It’s also feasible that we’ll see more classic opponents in season 2, such as Captain Alvida and Buggy the Clown.

One Piece season 2 cast

In the second season, we can expect the following cast to appear:

  • Iñaki Godoy – Monkey D. Luffy
  • Mackenyu Arata – Roronoa Zoro
  • Emily Rudd – Nami
  • Jacob Romero Gibson – Usopp
  • Taz Skylar – Sanji

Katey Sagal (Sons of Anarchy) will play fan favorite Dr Kureha, an elderly and quirky woman who some refer to as a witch. Mark Harelik (Presumed Innocent) will play her colleague Dr. Hiriluk, a complex character.

However, this is not all.

Callum Kerr (Monarch) will play the wicked Smoker, the marine who was hinted in the season one conclusion. Julia Rehwald (Fear Street) has been cast as Tashigi, a skilled swordsman and part of Smoker’s crew.

Rob Colletti (The Many Saints of Newark) will play Wapol, the former ruler of the Drum Kingdom and current pirate. Ty Keogh has joined the cast as Dalton, the new King of the Drum.

Clive Russell, best known for his role on Game of Thrones, will also appear in the second season. The actor will portray Crocus. He’s an elderly doctor who oversees the Twin Cape Lighthouse and cares for the whale Laboon.

Brendan Murray, who previously appeared in Warrior and Raised by Wolves, will play Brogy the Red Ogre, co-captain of the Giant Warrior Pirates.

Werner Coetser will play Dorry the Blue Ogre, Brogy’s brother and co-captain of the group.

Netflix has also cast four actors as villains from the crime syndicate known as Baroque Works.

David Dastmalchian, who starred in the horror film Late Night With the Devil, will play Mr. 3, also known as “Loan Shark” Galdino.

Camrus Johnson, who you may remember from Batwoman, will play Mr 5, also known as Gem of the Border.

Jazzara Jaslyn, who previously appeared in the Warrior series, will play Miss Valentine, an officer agent also known as Mikita.

Daniel Lasker, who appeared in Raised by Wolves, has been cast as Mr 9, a young agent who enjoys wearing a golden crown.
