Christmas is almost approaching, and what better way to unwind than in front of the television with enormous amounts of food (and a cheeky sherry or two)? Here’s a list of the best Christmas TV.
The BBC, ITV, and Channel 4 have all announced their big Christmas programs. With that in mind, what can you do with the gogglebox? Plenty.
Mog’s Christmas
Channel 4/Channel 4 website – Christmas Eve – 7:45pm
Judith Kerr is the author of The Tiger Who Came to Tea, which was recently adapted into an animated film. This year, Channel 4 will run an episode featuring the lovely kitty Mog, who ends herself on her own holiday journey. The narrative will be narrated by Adjoa Andoh, with Claire Foy, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Miriam Margolyes providing additional narration.
The Great Christmas Bake Off
🎄 We wish you a Bakey Christmas! 🎄
Join us for a pre-Santa trip into the Tent on Christmas Eve as George, Sophie, Dan, Amelia, Linda and Carole return for some festive fun!

Channel 4/Channel 4 website – Christmas Eve – 8:15pm
This holiday season, you’ll be able to watch the classic Bake Off not once, but twice. Past participants George, Sophie, Dan, Amelia, Linda, and Carole will all be back on Christmas Eve to make some festive sweets. Mark, Maxy, Maggie, and Jürgen will then battle for the 2024 special apron on New Year’s Day at 7:40pm.
A Ghost Story for Christmas: Lot No.249
BBC Two/BBC iPlayer – Christmas Eve – 10pm
If you want a classic spooky tale to enjoy this Christmas, then the BBC has just the thing. Mark Gatiss has adapted Arthur Conan Doyle’s short story about a group of Oxford academics who experience strange things when one of them purchases an ancient mummy at an auction. Better yet, it stars Kit Harington and Freddie Fox.
Tabby McTat
BBC One/BBC iPlayer – Christmas Day – 2:45pm
An animated story about a busker and his beloved cat from the makers of The Smeds and the Smoos. The duo reside in London, and their lives are turned upside down when the owner, Fred, fractures his leg hunting a thief, leaving Tabby McTat alone on the streets. The short video will be narrated by former Doctor Jodie Whittaker.
Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special
BBC One/BBC iPlayer – Christmas Day – 4:40pm
Strictly will return on its usual holiday episode. Typically, the participants dance to Christmas favorites, and the 10 paddle appears more frequently than usual because to the festive environment. Dan Snow, Sally Nugent, Jamie Borthwick, Tillie Amartey, Danny Cipriani, and Keisha Buchanan are this year’s contenders.
Doctor Who Christmas Special
BBC One/BBC iPlayer – Christmas Day – 5:55pm
Doctor Who fans should not miss the return of the Doctor Who Christmas Special, which features the first appearance of the fifteenth Doctor, Ncuti Gatwa. The episode is titled The Church on Ruby Road, and it introduces the show’s newest companion, Ruby Sunday, who was abandoned as a newborn on a doorway.
The Great Pottery Throw Down Christmas Special
ITV1/ITVX – Christmas Day – 7:30pm
Mo Gilligan, Davina McCall, Joel Dommett, Rita Ora, and Jonathan Ross will all return to judge a bunch of disguised celebrities dressed up in wacky costumes competing in this holiday competition – we’re anticipating many of great Christmas classics.
Ghosts Christmas Special
BBC One/BBC iPlayer – Christmas Day – 7:45pm
Ghosts finished its fifth season, which was the final complete season, earlier this year. There is one more holiday goodie for fans to enjoy. Mike’s mother is staying at Button House, but her son and Allison become tired of her meddling. Meanwhile, Robin seeks help from his fellow spirits to catch the Christmas spirit.
Call the Midwife Christmas Special
BBC One/BBC iPlayer – Christmas Day – 10:45pm
Mrs Brown’s Boys, another BBC Christmas tradition, is returning. This is the first of two specials; the second will appear on New Year’s Day. Mrs Brown’s calm Christmas is disturbed in the first installment when an unexpected dinner guest arrives at her residence.
Vera Christmas Special
ITV1/ITVX – Boxing Day – 8pm
DCI Vera Stanhope will return for a feature-length special on Boxing Day. The case is a high-profile suicide, but when Vera does some digging she discovers that something more sinister may be afoot, and the case leads her to a school reunion.
Murder is Easy
BBC One/BBC iPlayer – 27 December – 9pm (on iPlayer from 6am)
Murder is Easy has high expectations because Agatha Christie plays are frequently among the most fascinating things to telecast over the Christmas season. Officer Fitzwilliam is on his way to London when he encounters a mysterious woman who informs him that a murderer is on the loose in a tranquil town; the murderer soon attacks again.
Taskmaster’s New Year Treat
Channel 4/Channel 4 website – 2 January 2024 – 9pm
Greg Davies and Little Alex Horne will be back to ring in the New Year in style. Dragon’s Den judge and entrepreneur Deborah Meaden, Mercury Prize-nominated artist Kojey Radical, future Doctor Who actor Lenny Rush, wildlife TV personality Steve Backshall, and TV and radio broadcaster Zoe Ball will compete in some insane tasks in this one-off episode.
