We don’t know much about the Magic 6 roster yet, but Honor has revealed a few critical aspects.
Everything we’ve learned thus far about the Honor Magic 6 series, which appears to be returning with two versions.
When will the Honor Magic 6 be released?
At this year’s Snapdragon Summit 2023, Honor made a huge announcement: the Magic 6 series would be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Although the Magic 6’s release date has not been announced, Qualcomm anticipates that the first phones powered by their next flagship chipset will be available by the end of 2023.
It’s unclear whether this covers the Magic 6 and Magic 6 Pro, but here’s when prior versions were announced.
- Honor Magic 3: August 2021
- Honor Magic 4: February 2022
- Honor Magic 5: February 2023
If Honor follows the trend of its two previous launches, you can expect the Magic 6 and 6 Pro around February 2024. But there’s no concrete evidence that this will be the case yet.
If there ends up being a Magic 6 Ultimate, it’ll probably remain exclusive to China.
How much will the Honor Magic 6 cost?
There has been no confirmation of pricing for the new models, as there has been for prior ones, but we may depend on past ones for indications. At the time of their first release, the Magic 4 and Magic 5 phones were priced as follows:
- Honor Magic 4 Lite: £249/€319
- Honor Magic 4: €899
- Honor Magic 4 Pro: £949/€1,099
- Honor Magic 4 Ultimate (China only): ¥7,999 (around £960/$1,260)
- Honor Magic 5 Lite: £329/€369
- Honor Magic 5: €899
- Honor Magic 5 Pro: £949/€1,199
- Honor Magic 5 Ultimate (China only): ¥6,699 (around £780/$975)
Honor may maintain the Magic 5 price for the Magic 6 and 6 Pro. However, it is probable that we will see some rises.
Although the Magic 5 Ultimate is only available in China, it is less expensive than its predecessor, but it is unclear what awaits the Magic 6 Ultimate.
What specs and features will the Honor Magic 6 have?
There isn’t much information available about the Honor Magic 6’s specifications right now, but one of the most essential is that it will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Honor announced this in October 2023 at Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit.
An on-device LLM (long language model) with seven billion parameters will also power the Honor Magic 6. By sending orders to the on-device smart voice assistant YOYO, users will be able to utilize AI to create films using photographs and videos saved on their devices. Furthermore, all of the templates, themes, and music in these films may be customized via extra prompts for more personalized results.
Honor also demonstrated Magic Capsule, a multimodal engagement solution that uses eye-tracking technology. This technology allows users to operate their phone simply shifting their eyes. While the Magic Capsule seems interesting, its true functioning and privacy consequences are unknown.
They also demonstrated three key MagicRing features: connected camera, connected input, and multi-device screen sharing. MagicRing, by using Snapdragon Seamless technology, offers smoother and more power-efficient data flow across devices, hence improving stability.
Recent Weibo leaks have given us a look at what looks to be the future Magic 6 and Magic 6 Pro. To put things in perspective, the Honor Magic 5 had a curved-edge display with a punch-hole design in the center, while the Magic 5 Pro had a similar curved-edge screen but with a pill-shaped cut-out in the upper-left corner.
Earlier leaks claimed that the Magic 6 Pro will have a centrally situated pill-shaped cutout, and the new Weibo picture leak confirms this rumored design for the Magic 6 Pro. However, one photograph exposes the back of the phone, although the design is difficult to discern due to the handset being protected by a protective case.
This leak says that the camera configuration will be similar to that of the Magic 5 Pro. This would imply a 12MP front-facing camera as well as a depth sensor with Time-of-Flight (ToF) technology. Portrait phones should be much better as software improves.
Based on rumors, X (previously Twitter) user RODENT950 has also published a render of the Magic 6 Pro. It depicts a spherical camera module with three cameras, a ToF 3D depth sensor, and an LED flash, similar to the Magic 5 Pro. While the general appearance stays unchanged, the camera configuration differs somewhat from its predecessor.
