iOS 17 no more supports for iPhone 8 and iPhone X

If you have an iPhone 8 or iPhone X, or even an older model, and are thrilled about the new capabilities in iOS 17, you might want to consider upgrade this fall. When the update is published later this year (most likely in September), it will no longer support the iPhone 8 and iPhone X, which are now supported by iOS 16.

Those phones will be six years old by then. Apple normally maintains iPhones up to around five years old with its current operating systems, and some capabilities, of course, require even newer hardware.

    Some features require newer iPhones

Of course, certain functionalities just require newer technology than what the iPhone XR offers. For example, the upgraded autocorrect, which employs a new machine learning model and offers in-line corrections and full-sentence completions, an iPhone 12 or later is required.

Other features need the purchase of new hardware. For example, while FaceTime on Apple TV is compatible with any iPhone running iOS 17, it requires a second-generation Apple TV 4K.
