Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 has officially landed, and after spending a few days with it, I have to say Samsung really got the design right.
It’s remarkably light for a foldable, and that wider form factor genuinely works — it’s not just a gimmick. There’s a practical logic to it too: most of the web is designed around rectangles, whether that’s the vertical kind you scroll through on social media or the horizontal kind you use to watch video. The Fold 8 just fits how we actually use our phones.
In this piece, I’ll break down every design element and show you exactly how those small tweaks add up to something bigger. But I’ll be honest — there’s one unavoidable trade-off that still nags at me, even if just a little.
Once the initial excitement faded, I noticed the extra-wide form factor is just a touch less comfortable for everyday use than the iPhone 17 Pro I was using beforehand.
The dual camera setup on the back gets the job done, but if you’re coming from a recent flagship, it won’t blow you away. The main sensor is smaller than what most flagships offer, the ultra-wide performs just okay, and there’s no telephoto lens at all.
That said, it does pack in some solid Pro features. In Pro Video mode, if you shoot in LOG, you can now apply LUTs right in the gallery app — no need to transfer files to a separate video editor first. Nice touch!
Samsung also has, in my opinion, the most intuitive AI editing experience out there. Magic Eraser does an excellent job wiping out photobombers on the Fold 8.
Battery life was surprisingly solid for such a thin and light phone — you can read the full breakdown in my Fold 8 battery diary.
Samsung also bumped up the charging speed to 45W (up from 25W on previous Folds). It took a little over an hour to charge the phone fully.
The crease is nearly invisible now. You can spot it if you really look closely, but I never actually felt it while using the phone.
Gaming also feels like a genuinely awesome experience on the Fold 8.
Using the Fold 8 felt like using a mini tablet.
