The iPhone Duo’s opening and closing animation is pure genius, and people can’t get enough of it. Fans are now recreating the effect across all kinds of devices — we already saw it copied for the Galaxy Z Fold 8, and now a MacBook version is available too.
Mac Duo App Recreates the iPhone Duo’s Signature Animation on MacBook
Dhananjay Bhosale created Mac Duo, a free app that recreates the iPhone Duo’s opening and closing animation on your MacBook.
There’s no hidden functionality here — it’s purely aesthetic. You can grab it from the official Mac Duo page, but fair warning: it’s addictive, and your MacBook’s hinge won’t thank you for the extra workout. You’ll be opening and closing the lid nonstop — guaranteed.
Mac Duo compatibility
Mac Duo requires macOS 13 or later, and works on MacBook Air models with M2 or newer, plus 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with M1 Pro/Max chips or newer.
There’s also a preview build for the 2019 16-inch MacBook Pro, though it still needs more testing on that model.
Unsupported for now: M1 MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Pro with M1 or M2, and Intel Macs with a standard clamshell switch — all of these lack the lid sensor the app relies on.
The best iPhone Duo feature seems to be a UI animation

Just days after Apple officially unveiled the iPhone Duo, the internet has been buzzing about the new foldable — but not for the reason you’d expect.
Instead of the hinge mechanism or the new nano-texture matte screen, it’s the opening-and-closing UI animation that’s stealing the spotlight.
It’s a testament to how good Apple is at UI design. We’ve seen it before with Dynamic Island and the Liquid Glass overhaul, and now the iPhone Duo is having its moment. Would you buy the iPhone Duo for the UI alone?
