iPhone SE 4 (2024): Everything you need to know

iPhone SE 4: Since the series model was launched, the iPhone SE series has been extremely popular. It’s no surprise, given the excellent value for money.

The previous iPhone SE was released in 2022, and while it’s still a terrific phone, the iPhone 8’s appearance is considerably different from Apple’s current design language, and many brand lovers are hoping for a makeover.

The good news is that Apple may be working on a new version of the low-cost iPhone SE. However, rumors about the phone are contradictory, and it is unclear whether it will be produced. Here’s what we know thus far.

When will the iPhone SE 4 (2024) be released?

One of the greatest unknowns about the iPhone SE 4 is if it will be released at all.

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said in January that plans for the iPhone SE in 2024 had been canceled, but that the project had been restarted in February. Later that month, Kuo clarified that the model he was referring to may be an engineering prototype and that “there are no plans for mass production and sales.”

The iPhone SE series is not launched on a regular basis, unlike the flagship iPhones, which are introduced once a year. Previous models were released on the following dates:

  • iPhone SE (2016) – March 2016
  • iPhone SE (2017) – March 2017
  • iPhone SE 2 (2020) – April 2020
  • iPhone SE 3 (2022) – March 2022

Apple released the first iPhone SE in 2016, followed by an updated variant with larger storage choices in 2017, and then upgraded models in 2020 and 2022. This trend shows that the corporation has switched to a biannual release cycle. That suggests the iPhone SE 4 might debut in the spring of 2024.

According to a MacRumors rumor, Apple is certainly working on the upcoming iPhone SE. Analyst Jeff Pu, on the other hand, predicts a 2025 debut.

At this moment, it’s unclear which of these dates is most plausible, or whether Apple will release it at all.

How much will the iPhone SE 4 (2024) cost?

Apple has been slightly increasing the price of the phone over the last few years. Here’s how much previous models cost at their initial launch:

  • iPhone SE (2016) – $399/£359
  • iPhone SE (2017) – $399/£379
  • iPhone SE 2 (2020) – $399/£419
  • iPhone SE 3 (2022) – $429/£419

Based on this pattern, the iPhone SE 4 may also be more costly than its predecessor. However, the iPhone 15 costs less than the iPhone 14 (at least in the United Kingdom). As a result, there is some hope that Apple may decide to decrease prices marginally or not modify them at all.

What specs and features will the iPhone SE 4 (2024) have?

Design & display

According to MacRumors and Unknownz21, the forthcoming iPhone SE 4 will be a significantly modified version of the iPhone 14, with a 6.1in all-display design. The iPhone SE is the final surviving iPhone model with an LCD display, however it appears that it will be replaced by OLED technology.

Apple is likely to replace the Touch ID Home button on the iPhone SE 4 with a notch. However, because to probable cost increases, the implementation of Face ID and the TrueDepth camera technology in the notch remains doubtful.

Unknownz21 also reports that the iPhone SE 4 will include an Action Button, which would replace the phone’s mute switch on the side. Given that this capability was specific to the iPhone 15 Pro (seen below), it may be difficult to picture it being available on the iPhone SE 4. It is, nonetheless, conceivable.

Furthermore, the iPhone SE 4 is expected to feature a USB-C port, aligning with the connectivity standard adopted by flagship models.

Performance

Details about the chip in the iPhone SE 4 are few, but if the phone is actually based on the iPhone 14, it would be reasonable to expect Apple’s A15 Bionic CPU to be included.

In comparison, the current iPhone SE is powered by the same A15 processor found in the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 models. As a result, there’s a chance that the iPhone SE 4 will ship with a previous-generation processor. As a result, we anticipate the Apple A16 Bionic chip.

Software

The iPhone SE 4 will most likely debut with iOS 17 if it arrives early next year.

However, if its release is in 2025, it will surely run iOS 18 straight out of the box.

Cameras

The existing ‌iPhone SE‌ is equipped with a 12Mp camera. The upcoming ‌iPhone SE‌ 4 might also opt for a single-lens camera configuration to manage costs, yet there is speculation that it could feature the 48Mp primary lens used in the ‌iPhone 15 (below).

According to sources, Apple has been testing alternative camera configurations for the iPhone SE 4. As a result, it is unclear what the final decision will be, and it is conceivable that one has not yet been made.

Battery & charging

Apple can pack a bigger battery into the iPhone SE 4 thanks to the redesigned design.

The current design constrains the physical capacity of a large battery. With the iPhone 14’s greater dimensions, Apple may be able to include a substantially larger battery, perhaps improving the iPhone SE’s battery life to a higher level.

However, we do not have any concrete facts and can only speculate.

Connectivity

According to Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple was testing the in-house 5G baseband processor with the iPhone SE 4 prototype. This is also confirmed by MacRumors.

The current iPhone SE includes 5G technology, and it’s likely that the next-generation model will include an improved 5G processor with increased support for more bands.

There is also conjecture that it will be the first iPhone to have Apple’s in-house modem processor, however this remains questionable for the time being.

That’s all we know for now about the much-anticipated iPhone SE 4. We’ll update this post if we discover anything new.
