Omdia has built a roadmap for Apple next gadgets, which provides interesting insights into the company’s future goals.
In a now-deleted X post, leaker Jukanlosreve appears to have gotten knowledge about what Omdia believes is on the horizon.
The most fascinating aspect of the concept is the 18.8-inch foldable tablet, which is set to appear in 2028. Given its size, it seems unlikely that this is a smartphone. Instead, it is thought that the device would be Apple’s response to hybrids such as the Asus Zenbook 17 Fold OLED, which is a combination of laptop and tablet.
According to Omdia’s roadmap, Apple also plans to gradually introduce OLED displays in its product lines:
- 2026: iPad Mini (8.4 inches) will have an OLED panel with LTPS (Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Silicon) technology. In the same year, the Macbook Pro models (14- and 16 inches) will also introduced with OLED, but advanced LTPO versions
- 2027: iPad Air (11- and 13 inches) get OLED screens
- 2028: iPad Pro models get an improved ‘tandem OLED’ display, while the MacBook Air also gets its OLED upgrade
OLED technology significantly improves screen quality, including greater color reproduction and energy efficiency. Apple’s slow transition to OLED, beginning with smaller items such as the iPad Mini, represents a step toward revitalizing its whole product range with cutting-edge display technology.
Of fact, the business already has an OLED device: the 2024 iPad Pro.
The foldable 18-inch device’s exact role in the Apple ecosystem is unclear, but its potential use as a laptop-tablet hybrid might usher in a new era of Apple products.
