Apple’s new M2 and M2 Pro-powered Mac Mini is now available for purchase

The Apple Mac Mini was one of the first products to use Apple Silicon, with the first M1 chip being installed in 2020. Starting at $699/£699, it was an excellent way to obtain high-end performance without the expensive price tag.

However, with no new model in two years, there were rumors that Apple had discontinued the Mac Mini entirely. Fortunately, that hasn’t happened, and the brand-new 2023 model appears to have been worth the wait.

Along with updates to the Mac mini M2 processor for 2022 and the brand-new M2 Pro, Apple has managed to reduce the beginning price – both in the US and the UK. Everything you need to know is right here.

When was the new Mac Mini released?

On January 17, 2023, Apple issued an official press release announcing the 2023 Mac Mini. At the same time, Apple unveiled a new MacBook Pro as well as the CPUs that power it, the M2 Pro and M2 Max.

The gadget is currently available for purchase, having been launched on January 24, 2023.

How much does the new Mac Mini cost?

Despite the M2 and M2 Pro enhancements, Apple has reduced the price of the new Mac Mini to that of the 2020 model. There is a $100 discount in the United States, but just a £50 discount in the United Kingdom. Here is a synopsis of all three models:

  • Mac Mini – 8-Core CPU, 10-Core GPU, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD – $599/£649
  • Mac Mini – 8-Core CPU, 10-Core GPU, 8GB RAM, 512GB SSD – $799/£849
  • Mac Mini – 10-Core CPU, 16-Core GPU, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD – $1,299/£1,399

What are the new Mac Mini specs and design?

Because the rumored apple Mac Mini revamp did not materialize, there are just two notable enhancements. The switch from Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 4 USB-C connectors is small, but the other major difference is far more significant.

On the 2023 model, you may pick between the ordinary M2 and the M2 Pro, the latter of which was launched at the same time as the regular M2.

The M2 arrangement is an improvement over the M1 in the 2020 model, with Apple boasting up to 35% quicker GPU performance due to the two more cores – it’s now a 10-Core GPU. Although there are just four CPU cores, CPU rates are said to be up to 18% quicker.

The M2 Pro, on the other hand, takes things to the next level, even if it is eclipsed by the top-of-the-line M2 Max. It employs the 5nm technology, as have all previous Apple Silicon processors, but with 40 billion transistors – double the number present in the ordinary M2.

On the new Mac Mini, Apple lets you pick between 8 and 10 CPU cores, with the latter having eight performance cores and four efficiency cores. This is said to make it up to 20% quicker than the M1 Pro, which was a substantial boost over the M1.

The 10-Core GPU remains, but there is now an option for a massive 16-Core GPU with greater L2 cache. Apple claims up to 30% higher graphics speeds on a model with a 19-Core GPU, but the new Mac Mini shouldn’t be far behind.

Affinity Photo, Final Cut Pro, and Resident Evil Village are among the programs that will benefit greatly from M2 Pro. It has to be seen how obvious the improvement is in comparison to the M1 in the 2020 Mac Mini.

Everything else, including the other ports – HDMI, Ethernet, and a 3.5mm headphone jack – stays same.
