Nintendo has recently teased the presence of a new product. No, not that one.
Instead of capitalizing on the worldwide enthusiasm surrounding the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, the Japanese gaming behemoth is teaming up with Lego.
A collaborative trailer from Lego and Nintendo of America uploaded on Instagram recently revealed that the two firms are working on a new Lego version of the famous Game Boy, which will be released in October 2025.
The caption reads, “Build the classic Nintendo system in LEGO form.” Coming October 2025,” the video depicts a black Lego piece shaped like a D-pad and the Game Boy’s iconic purple buttons sliding Tetris-style down the screen.
This isn’t the first time Nintendo and Lego have collaborated; there are several Lego sets featuring Nintendo characters such as pixelated Mario and Yoshi, a piranha plant, and even a future Lego Mario Kart set. There was also a 2,600-piece reproduction set of the original NES published a few years ago, as well as a TV display featuring a blocky Super Mario screenshot.
The joint announcement is merely a teaser, so there’s no actual information on pricing, how many pieces there will be, or whether it’ll be game-compatible. We may expect that information to arrive from either Lego or Nintendo in due time.
But what about the Switch 2?
The much-anticipated Switch 2 is, of course, the elephant in the room, and Nintendo has been doggedly silent about it thus far. According to NintendoLife, the Big N’s most recent declaration was a terse statement stating the Switch 2 dummy unit showed off at CES this year was “not official”.
Despite this, the numerous leaks and rumors, including a completely rendered render, lead us to believe that the Switch 2 is prepared and ready for the spotlight. It’s simply a matter of when Nintendo decides to pull back the veil.
