We now have the Samsung Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus, which were just released. These smartphones rely on minimalist DNA for seamless transitions in addition to a strong Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor.
The Samsung Galaxy S23 and S23+, as well as the S23 Ultra, have been officially announced. They are less visible than the bigger, more costly versions, with a minimalist approach to the potential that may nearly conceal the benefits they provide. The latter, albeit subtle, should be mentioned. Here’s our perspective to share our initial impressions of these high-end phones with you.
Ultra Sobriety
In terms of design, it is vital to begin with an observation. The Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 + are twins, and the latter simply ate a bit extra soup to be taller. Aside from the template, they resemble two drops of water. They were so inspired by the design of their larger brother ultra, at least in terms of the camera. The block at the rear does, indeed, go.
Exit, then, the aluminum rectangle that was partially curled up on the device’s edge. Here, three cameras are optically isolated from one another. The Galaxy S23 and S23 + thus ditch the trademark of the S22 and S22 + in favor of a more simple design. Samsung notes that after receiving very great feedback on the design of the S22 Ultra last year, it wanted to bring uniformity to the line.
Here we have the primary difference between the S23 and S23 Plus on the one hand and their predecessors on the other. It’s quite lovely, and it mixes in well with the matter coating on the back of the devices. However, we lose a touch of the je ne sais quoi that made the non-Ultra Galaxy S so appealing.
It is a huge triumph in the grasp. The more or less flat edge combines wonderfully with routed edges to give these smartphones a pleasant appearance, especially the basic Galaxy S23, which is extremely little in comparison to the other two versions. The S23 Plus, for its part, sacrifices some of its cuteness in exchange for a larger screen.
The screen size is precise: 6.1 inches for the Galaxy S23, which functions as a modern-day small smartphone, and 6.6 inches for the S23 Plus. Amoled, Full HD +, adaptive 120 Hz mode (down to 48 Hz), and maximum brightness of 1750 nits, which is the same as the Ultra. It will be ideal for the next hot summers. If you can’t locate a shaded spot, you’ll still be able to see the material shown despite the bright sunlight.
The Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the front and back, the strengthened aluminum, and the profitability index of 8.2 / 10 are all assurances of the items’ durability.
Discreet, But Powerful… and More Autonomous?
The valued argument for design is minimalism. This speech vanishes like a bit of dust in front of the phenomenal wind that I take on my favorite jokes. Boom! We put a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 with little onions there since, while we are pleased to FINALLY get the newest Qualcomm chip on European models (bye bye, irritating Exynos), we are served here a version expressly tuned for the S23. In addition, there is 8 GB of RAM.
With this type of guarantee, Samsung sets the bar very high and intends to keep it. We can only take his word for it because he is hanging a thorough test. I could tell you that I did not experience any sluggishness when using the S23 and S23 Plus, but that is certainly not typical of what consumers expect.
The upgrade in SoC might also improve the autonomy of the two smartphones, whose predecessors were never known for their durability. Let’s hoping Snapdragon eventually outperforms Exynos at this level.
Especially now that the batteries have been somewhat upgraded, 200 mAh on each device:
- Galaxy S23: 3900mAh ( max loading at 25W );
- Galaxy S23 Plus: 4700mAh ( maximum charge at 45 W ).
There are no big changes to your photos, save that all photo sensors (rear and front) now have Dual Pixel autofocus, so you won’t have to fight with focusing. It was fairly encouraging during the grip, but we’ll have to wait for the test to find out for sure.
One IU 5.1 comes with Android 13, four major upgrades, and five years of software monitoring for security.
Minimum Service
As you may have guessed, a grasp of the S23 and S23 + provides a taste of their user experience, but the enhancements they provide are done quietly, at least as long as we could not submit them to extended testing. Is this the bare minimum? May be. While the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is already present in our daily life, the other enhancements are cautious.
According to Samsung, the intention is not to appeal to owners of the S22s or S22 Plus. An argument that may be made, however the 25 W charge of the S23 is still limiting for a smartphone at this price.
