Samsung smartwatch ‘Pro’ set to make a return in 2024

Samsung Galaxy Watch has become one of the most recognizable smartwatch brands available today.

Each year, two new models are released, and 2023 was no exception, with both the Galaxy Watch 6 and 6 Classic excelling in a variety of ways.

So, what can we expect from its much-anticipated successor? Rumours say that the lineup will be more similar to 2022 than last year. Here’s all you need know about the Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 series.

When will the Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 be released?

If you’ll pardon the pun, Samsung’s Galaxy Watch release schedule has been as consistent as clockwork. For numerous years now, the most recent versions have made their premiere in August:

  • Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 – August 2023
  • Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 Classic – August 2023
  • Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 – August 2022
  • Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro – August 2022
  • Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 – August 2021
  • Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic – August 2021

With this in mind, the Watch 7 and Watch 7 Classic or Pro are expected to launch in August 2024. This might arrive with the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6 foldables, however nothing is definite at this time.

How much will the Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 cost ?

Over the past few years, Samsung has gradually raised the costs of all of its Galaxy Watch models.

The Pro and Classic, the two luxury variants of the Watch, start at about £370/$400, while the regular 40mm models start about £300/$300. Since these costs are competitive, we anticipate that they will remain the same for the Galaxy Watch 7 versions.

The prices of the preceding generations were as follows:

Galaxy Watch 6

  • Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 (40mm, Bluetooth) – $299.99/£289
  • Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 (40mm, LTE) – $349.99/£339
  • Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 (44mm, Bluetooth) – $329.99/£319

  • Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic 46mm  (Bluetooth only) – $379/£369
  • Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic 46mm (4G)– $429.99/£409

With the rumours of a Pro model in 2024, we wouldn’t expect prices to change too much from the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro.

What specs and features will the Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 have?

A possible release date for the Galaxy Watch 7 range is still a few months away as of this writing. In spite of this, there are some significant leaks and rumors about what to anticipate.

At the time of writing, Samsung hasn’t made many formal announcements on the features of the new models because the release date is still far off. We’ve collected some of the rumors we’ve come across that indicate the enhancements the business is reportedly working on for the Galaxy Watch 7 in order to provide some insight into what it may provide.

Pro instead of Classic…again

Samsung has introduced the regular Watch model as well as a high-end Classic or Pro version in recent years. The Pro is a tough version designed for outdoor activities, while the original has a spinning bezel that mimics some of the original diving watches.

In 2023, Samsung informed PCMag that each variety will receive an update every other year. As a result, the Watch 5 came with a Pro model, while the Watch 6 had a Classic. This implies that a Galaxy Watch 7 Pro is anticipated this time around, and the Watch 6 Classic will continue to be sold until its replacement arrives the following year.

Sleep apnea tracking

Sleep apnea tracking will be available on the Samsung Galaxy Watch platform, as Samsung has previously disclosed.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has authorized the sleep apnea function on the Galaxy Watch, according to a February 2024 post from the firm. It will be accessible through the Samsung Health Monitor app, which is exclusive to Samsung phones, indicating that it isn’t going to work with other Android smartphones.

People with sleep apnea, a common sleep problem, may have brief episodes of unconsciousness. This lowers the quality of sleep, but in more extreme situations, it can make cardiovascular diseases worse. Monitoring your sleep to determine whether you have apnea might be a huge step forward for health and getting a good night’s rest.

Samsung

At the end of the announcement post, Samsung only confirms that the feature will be available in the US. Hopefully its release will be expanded to include the UK and rest of Europe before too long.

New processor

Samsung’s own 5nm Exynos W930 processor powers the Galaxy Watch 6 and 6 Classic. Samsung could decide to remain with it for an additional generation given that performance is currently really respectable.

NewDaily, a Korean tech website, claims that Samsung will switch to a new 3nm processor. It’s possible that this is a new Exynos W940, although Samsung could decide to use Qualcomm instead.

In any case, the paper predicts that performance might increase by up to 30% and power consumption could decrease by 50%, with the latter contributing to longer battery life. On the new gadgets, both would be very appreciated.

That’s all the information we currently have, but we’ll keep this post updated when more information becomes available. You might find these stories about the Google Pixel Watch 3 interesting in the meanwhile.
