Xiaomi HyperOS 2.0 will include a capability for detecting hidden cameras.

Xiaomi launched HyperOS as its latest operating system last year. This replaced MIUI as the default OS on new Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO phones. Older phones were gradually updated to HyperOS. Xiaomi is rumoured to be working on HyperOS 2.0. According to reports, the updated version would have a tool to identify hidden cameras.

  • Xiaomi’s HyperOS 2.0 update will detect hidden cameras, as reported by XiaomiTime. This will be accomplished using WLAN-based searches.
  • The report includes a screenshot of this feature, entitled “Camera scan.” The description states, “Detect hidden cameras to protect your privacy and personal safety.” You’ll have to tap it to begin scanning the area for hidden cameras.
  • Once the scan is completed, you will see the results on the screen, indicating whether or not any cameras were located.

This would be a really useful function for security and privacy, especially given the ease of access on a phone. There is currently no official information, however it appears that Xiaomi is testing the feature for the HyperOS 2.0 release. Several Xiaomi phones are anticipated to receive the update as it becomes available.
