Motorola Edge 40: All what you need to know

We were anxiously awaiting the next generation of Edge 40 phones since Motorola has had a fairly impressive couple of years when it comes to flagships, and the Edge 30 series upped the ante.

As the Moto X40 has already been released in China and is virtually definitely to be released in the West as the Edge 40 Pro, we believe we have already encountered at least one of these.

When will the Motorola Edge 40 series be released?

As of 15 December, Motorola unveiled the Moto X40 in China, where it made its debut. As a result, Motorola has already started releasing the Edge 40 series in some form.

We anticipate that the X30 from last year will ultimately evolve into the Edge 30 Pro.

The question of when these models will be on sale under the Edge 40 brand is still open, but we anticipate it to be shortly. With specifications that match China’s X40, as you might assume, the Edge 40 Pro was discovered on Geekbench in February, indicating that it is approaching completion of testing and is ready for sale.

The Motorola Edge 30 line had a staggered rollout, and the following generation could follow suit. When did the Edge 30 models first appear?

  • Motorola Edge 30 Pro – March 2022
  • Motorola Edge 30 – May 2022
  • Motorola Edge 30 Ultra – September 2022
  • Motorola Edge 30 Neo – September 2022
  • Motorola Edge 30 Fusion – September 2022

As you can see, the 30 Pro was the first to go on sale. We believe that this will probably happen again the following time, although probably not until sometime in the spring.

How much will the Motorola Edge 40 cost?

Only Chinese prices have been released thus far for the X40. It starts at 3,399 yen (about $490 or £400), though we anticipate it to be more expensive when it really launches on other markets. We can consider the preceding generation to get a general picture. The models in that price range were arranged as follows, starting with the cheapest:

  • Motorola Edge 30 Neo – £349/€399 (approx. $415)
  • Motorola Edge 30 – $399/£379/€499
  • Motorola Edge 30 Fusion – £499/€699 (approx. $615)
  • Motorola Edge 30 Pro – $699/€799 (approx. £589)
  • Motorola Edge 30 Ultra – £749/€899 (approx. $889)

The Motorola Edge 40 series may follow a pattern similar to how not all models were released by Motorola in every market, which accounts for the varying approx. pricing.

What are the Motorola Edge 40 specs?

The Edge 40 series will eventually include numerous phones, but for the moment, we only know about the one that was introduced in China as the X40 and is most likely to become the Edge 40 Pro.

This phone is quite remarkable. Like the Edge 30 Pro before it, it sports a 6.7-inch curved OLED display, but with a significant improvement: the panel’s previously fast 144Hz speed has been increased to 165Hz. This should make the device very alluring to mobile gamers who don’t want to totally commit to a dedicated gaming phone.

Everything is contained in a sleek, straightforward design that stays true to the excellent appearance of the previous generation and comes in models in either black or light blue. It has an IP68 rating for security, Gorilla Glass Victus, and is both thin (8.6mm) and light (197g).

It has the most recent Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 CPU, which is coupled with either 8 or 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage, making it as powerful as you’d expect from a phone that appeals to gamers.

The little (4600mAh) battery should provide a day’s worth of battery life. Although the 15W wireless charging is eerily sluggish by Chinese flagship standards, you also get rapid 125W cable charging. But, since so few people purchase the proprietary wireless chargers to get the fastest rates, this is actually not a big deal.

With a triple back camera arrangement consisting of a 50MP primary camera with OIS, a 50MP ultrawide, and a 12MP telephoto, together with a high-resolution 60MP selfie camera on the opposite side, the cameras appear to be reliable once more.
