I’ve tried hundreds of MacBook accessories—here’s my 5 favorites from $17.

Great MacBook upgrades for every budget

The MacBook Air is Apple’s most popular notebook, and one of the most popular computers on the market overall. However, with so many docks, chargers, peripherals, supports, and cases available, it may be difficult to determine which MacBook accessories are worthwhile.

I’ve been testing some of the best MacBook Air accessories I could find to demonstrate everything you’ll need to get the most out of your new notebook. Some of these accessories are even especially built for the latest MacBook Air 13-inch M3 and MacBook Air 15-inch M3, but for the most part, they are excellent alternatives for MacBook Pros and other top MacBooks.

BEST MACBOOK CASES

Just as with my phones, I won’t be caught using my MacBook without a protection. I understand this is a controversial statement, but if you buy a metal laptop, you will require a case. I’ve tried quite a few in recent years, but the Spigen Urban Fit is by far the finest. Flimsy plastic ones I’ve had in the past wear and break quickly, but not the Urban Fit.

This is ultimate MacBook case on the market, available for both MacBook Pro and MacBook Air machines.

Soft cases are worth considering if you don’t want to toss your MacBook in a bag. First, there’s the deceptively tough Belkin Sleeve ($17 on Amazon), which has a retractable handle. The Spigen Klasden ($42 at Amazon) is a step up, with improved scratch and water resistance. Finally, there’s the MOFT Sleeve ($59 on Amazon), which is essentially an origami-style transformer. It’s a sleeve, but it can be folded and snapped into a stand with two height adjustments of 15 and 25 degrees for improved viewing and typing angles.

BEST MACBOOK PERIPHERALS

Although MacBooks feature built-in keyboards and trackpads, wireless accessories may be quite useful for working more effectively. The Logitech MX Master 3S is one of my favorite productivity mice; it has been my everyday mouse for several years and is the greatest mouse you can get in terms of ergonomics. When coupled with a Logitech keyboard, you may easily switch between your other devices by sliding the mouse to the desired side of the screen, and it will instantly begin operating that other computer. As someone who uses a MacBook for business and a PC for gaming, the ability to effortlessly switch between the two is really convenient.

This ergonomic mouse is a must-buy for productivity.

The Logitech Casa Pop Up Desk ($179 at Amazon) is an excellent all-in-one option. It has a little wireless keyboard and trackpad, as well as a small pocket for wires and other accessories. This looks like a school zip-up binder and weights roughly the same as one. Then, if you prefer a compact, lightweight, and more unique-looking keyboard and mouse combo, check out Logitech’s Pebble Keys ($37 @ Amazon) and Pebble Mouse 2 ($24 @ Amazon). For a step up, consider the Logitech MX-Mini Keys ($99 on Amazon), which is hands down my favorite multi-device keyboard.

BEST MACBOOK USB-C DOCKS

Even while we recognize that the MacBooks only have two USB-C ports, this does not imply we are trapped with them. For the past few months, I have been utilizing the Pluggable TBT4-UDX1. It only has two Thunderbolt 4 connections, however it compensates with four USB-3 Type A connectors (ideal for older devices), an HDMI 2.0 port, ethernet 2.5, and an SD card reader.

This is a go-to for maximizing your MacBook’s port options.

BEST MACBOOK STANDS

Laptop stands can help you keep your desk looking neater. The Twelve South BookArc Flex has a very basic design and does not take up much desk space. Your MacBook slides in and is snug between the rubber feet. This is one of the nicest-looking stands I’ve seen, and it works with a variety of desktop layouts.

BEST MACBOOK CHARGERS

It’s surprising how efficient MacBooks have gotten, but when it comes to charging them, whether at home or on the move, these are some of the best options available. Starting with the smallest, we have the Belkin BoostCharge 67W. It’s nearly as strong as Apple’s 70W option, but it has two more USB-C connections and is considerably smaller and lighter. You can simply keep your MacBook fueled while also charging a second smaller device, such as a phone.

This rivals Apple’s 70W MacBook charger with a slimmer design and 3 USB-C ports.

The Anker Prime 100W ($84 at Amazon) is almost as tiny but has a significantly higher power. It swaps out one of its USB-C ports for a USB-Type-A, which is useful in a pinch. Got two Macbooks, or one Macbook and another power-hungry device? If you require a really fast charger, the Spigen 140W Charger (was $99, now $49 on Amazon) is almost double the size and twice the power of the Belkin. If you don’t mind a little extra size, the Anker Prime 200W +100W Charging Base (was $184, now $159 on Amazon) is the ultimate all-in-one charger for at home and on the road.
