The new Pixel 7 Pro is very similar to its predecessor, which may cause you to choose between the two. Following a summary of the differences between the Pixel 7 and Pixel 6, here are all of the significant differences between the two more expensive models.
DESIGN: FINISHED BETTER
Overall, the 7 Pro design takes the foundations established by the 6 Pro and adds a little polish, particularly on the back picture block, which should age better due to its aluminum finish and more rounded corners. Aside from that, the two phones have nearly identical proportions, with the 7 Pro gaining two grams. As a result, there isn’t enough of a difference to perceive in the hand.
The 6.7-inch OLED LTPO QHD + display with its 19.5: 9 aspect ratio remains unchanged. Spatial sound has also been included, resulting in a somewhat improved end audiovisual experience.
The colors are the only noticeable visual distinction. The Pixel 6 Pro, in fact, has a two-tone design with a slightly lighter tint above the photo block. On the Pixel 7 Pro, this is no longer the case. In addition, the Pixel 7 Pro’s edges are now colored, whereas they were black on the 6 Pro.
The USB-C port on the Pixel 7 Pro is also more efficient, as it is a second generation 3.2 as opposed to the first generation 3.1 on the Pixel 6 Pro. This translates to a speed increase from 5 Gbits/s to 10 Gbits/s.
PHOTO: A LOT OF OPTIONS
The Pixel 7 Pro offers several advantages in terms of photography. The first is the possibility to employ Google’s Super Res Zoom and so choose for a digital X30. Let’s not forget that the telephoto lens in the Pixel 7 Pro has a higher optical zoom, with X5 compared to X4 on the Pixel 6 Pro. The super wide-angle lens also offers a wider viewing angle, measuring 125.8 degrees vs 114 degrees on the Pixel 6 Pro.
The Pixel 7 Pro’s selfie camera, on the other hand, loses a few pixels when it transitions from an 11.1 Mpx sensor to 10.8 Mpx. The viewing angle has also been lowered from 94° to 92.8°. Nothing out of the ordinary. There are also certain video enhancements, such as cinematic blur and 10-bit HDR video. Finally, the Pixel 7 Pro has a macro mode with a focus that is quite near to the subject.
PERFORMANCE: A LITTLE MUCH POWER
The Pixel 7 Pro has the Google Tensor G2 processor, whereas the Pixel 6 Pro ends at Tensor 1. In reality, it’s the same slightly overclocked chip. The changes in benchmarks are subtle:

In-game, the Pixel 7 Pro, like the 6 Pro, appeared particularly uncomfortable to us (which Google verifies and assumes). Expect no progress on this front.
However, two points should be made regarding the software. The built-in VPN on Google One should be free for Pixel 7 owners. As a reminder, this functionality is scheduled to launch in December 2022. In addition, purchasing a phone a year younger generally grants you access to a year’s worth of further upgrades. The Pixel 7 Pro will be able to reach Android 16 whereas the Pixel 6 Pro will be limited to Android 15.
The battery capacity is the same (5000 mAh), but Google appears to have optimized the 7 Pro better. Indeed, it has a 72-hour super battery saver mode, as opposed to the 6 Pro’s 48-hour one.
Another significant difference is that the google 7 Pro has storage choices, whereas the 6 one was limited to 128 GB.
WHICH ONE SHOULD YOU TAKE?
As you may have guessed, the Pixel 7 Pro integrates several minor enhancements to the Pixel 6 Pro recipe. The latter, however, remains important for those searching for a luxury phone at a somewhat lower price. Indeed, the new Pixel 6 Pro costs 799 euros, compared to 899 euros or more for its predecessor. However, it should be noted that the 6 one is most likely available in a reconditioned variant at much lower pricing.
