Meta will release a new Oculus Quest virtual reality (VR) headset this autumn, according to company founder Mark Zuckerberg in an Instagram post in June.
The Quest 3 headset is the successor to the Quest 2 and Quest Pro headsets.
The Quest 3 announcement, according to Meta’s chief technology officer Andrew Bosworth, known as “Boz,” was scheduled in early July to assist people plan for holiday shopping. More information will be released during the Meta Connect conference in September.
Meta joined the VR sector in 2014 when it paid $2 billion in cash and equity to buy Oculus VR from creator Palmer Luckey. The Oculus VR headset has been renamed the Meta Quest.
However, Meta has failed to make a profit from its VR offers. Reality Labs, which created the Quest Pro and is developing its metaverse business, lost $13.7 billion in 2022.
The Quest Pro has received mixed reviews, and sales have been disappointing. To increase sales, the business reduced the price of its VR headsets earlier this year.
